Im still rather large and need to lose. Some people say add in small weights now then build up others say wait b/c I dont want to bulk up. I dont I really want to just lose n tone up I dont care to look muscular in the least big, but I know lifting small weight will help with the burning of fat.

So I guess my question is do I wait till I get close to my goal weight then start weight lifting (stick to cardio)...OR should I start now?

You should be starting now! I find that interval training is awesome for losing without bulking up. Do a set on some weights then do some cardio for a minute to get your heart rate up, then back to the weights, and repeat.

start now. Lifting weights won't make you bulky, it will help you achieve the 'toned' look you are after. New Rules of Lifting for Women is a good place to start if you are new to it.

Definitely start now! Women don't "bulk up" unless you're one of those really rare women with the genetic predisposition to (as in you have high testosterone), or you're taking steroids. It will actually make your weight loss go better for you later on, because that muscle will help raise your metabolism while the fat comes off.

If you only knew how hard a testosterone filled 25 year old really had to work in order to gain a pound of muscle...

Lifting weights (even vigorously) will only help you achieve your goals. The idea that you'll wind up bulked up isn't realistic, so no worries. The bulky lady-monsters that you've seen pictures of either worked very, very hard to get that body and/or used drugs to get that way.

Start now. It will help you lessen muscle loss while you're losing weight, increase bone density, etc. There is never a bad time, really. Just be sure to use proper form when working out.

I'm starting this tonight and doing cardio on the other three days. I love what they have to say and they clear up a lot of misconceptions.
