What do I do....

So I've been going to the gym at least 5 days a week. I'm just wondering..... I walk on the treadmill every time I go..... My target heart rate is 151 for the fat burning mode.... After 2 weeks of doing a 3.0 incline and 3.0 speed my heart rate sat at 121- so I upped my incline because I am just not ready to attempt to jog/run.... Needless to say for the last week I've been at a incline of at least 8- most of the time I bump it up to 12, 13, or 15 for about 15 minutes... Is this going to slow my weight loss if I cant get my heart rate to go to its "target rate" without running. I start softball 2 days a week in two weeks so I know that will be something else, but I really have a lot of weight to lose and do not want to slow the process or become discouraged. A friend of mine has lost 87 lbs in a little over 2 years, and she says all she does is walk on the treadmill- I do the circuit training and some rope jumping/ bike riding as well. Any suggestions??

Try moving the speed up to 3.5 or 4.0 for a fast walk with the incline. That 'should' raise your heart rate. Or do intervals on the treadmill where you jog for 10 or 20 seconds and then walk for 10 or 20 seconds. I KNOW that works for getting the heart rate up.
Are you using a chest strap heart rate monitor or the handle bar heart rate monitor on the machine? Because that makes a big difference to. I don't think the handle bar reads correctly half the time.0 -
the machine... I know I have to buy the other one....0

Hey, that's awesome! You've improved your cardiovascular health! You may have to up your speed, or try a little running to get your heart rate up there again! If you keep going at the rate you are, you'll be in great shape in no time! And don't worry about the pounds, they'll come off eventually if you keep working hard.0

Yep ive noticed that moving up on speed (joggin bout a few mins then fast pace walking, repeat this cycle) this will bring your heart rate up to where you want it.. just keep monitoring your heart rate while treadmilling.. i try to keep my heart rate at around or between 135 - 150ish..0
