EATING LATE IN THE EVENING

I have eaten late (around 8.00-8.30 at night) for years. Basically, I have a nearly 4 year old and a 2 year old, my hubby works 13+ hours a day and doesn't normally get home until gone 7.00 in the evening. Once we have put the boys to bed, we normally sit down and eat our dinner. I do try to have quite a small dinner, as it is late in the evening but it doesn't always work. (I have tried eating dinner when my children eat dinner but normally end up very hungry later on).
Up until about August of last year, I would eat late then about 9.30-10.00 do an hour or so worth of exercise and I very rarely hit a plateau.
I do wake up very early (6.00) and manage to do about 30 minute workout before the boys wake up and have decided that, as from today, will do between 30minutes - 1 hour (depending on how much exercise I have done that day) either walking the dog or on the gazelle at a moderate to vigorous rate. I HAVE HIT A PLATEAU WHICH HAS STAYED FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS :explode:
Basically, as anyone else experienced this whilst eating late and does anyone have any advice please.
Thank you

When you eat has no (or very little) impact on your weight loss. Eat as late as you want. I often have a meal or snack minutes before bed. The only reason you wouldn't eat so soon before sleeping is that it gives you indigestion/heartburn/stomach aches/trouble sleeping.0

You can eat whenever you want. The important thing is to hit your calorie goals. I took a quick look at your diary, and it looks like you tend to either go over or go under, sometimes by significant amounts. How did you set your daily calorie allowance? Do you know what your BMR and TDEE are?0

Hi,
I set my calorie intake in line with my BMR and I rarely eat my exercise calories back. I know that this is very controversial but just can't eat them back! Sorry to sound not very clever but not sure what TDEE stands for....0 -
I gave myself a cut off time of 730pm
After that the only thing i can have is tea.
I found that eating late made me not lose weight and it also made me feel bloated when i would go to bed ( that being said i do go to sleep very early 9pm to be exact)
Now that i dont eat after 730 i find im not munching as much because as soon as i get home i start tp prepare my dinner.0 -
It doesn't make any different when I eat. It hasn't affected my weight loss whatsoever. I lost about 20 pounds since the beginning of the year and I usually always eat something late at night before bed. usually just a snack because I eat dinner with my son around 6pm. But depending on how many calories i have left over, sometimes I eat another small meal. Like a pb&j or something.
I think you just have to find what works for you.0 -
I really dont think the times you eat really make much difference if your foods are healthy and your calories are right. I also really dont think 2 weeks is a plateau I have been going on 4 years now and times my weight doesnt change for a month but my size is changing my BF% is dropping but my Skeletal muscle is increasing so weight is the same but the body is better or different0

That's a great idea to just have tea. Think I will give that a try.0 -
I agree with what most people have said, I think the "don't eat after 830" line was just something someone said one time and it stuck.
Personally, I have been at this for 87 days. I have lost almost 16 pounds and eat a snack (sometimes big ones) every single night, usually after 8pm. I too have hit plateaus, but I changed up my exercise, etc and got through them.
eat when you want, when your hungry. If anything, change up what you are eating not when.0 -
I know it really doesnt matter how late you eat, but (in my experience) Ive stopped eating after 7.. well not stopped but Ill try and have dinner before that.. then after 7 if i get peckish I have yogurt with granola (mmmmm) or something light with lots of water or green/peppermint tea... Maybe try eating with the kids and having light snacks after that...
As for your plateau... it happens... Change up your routine... Maybe even add something like a green tea every morning after the dog walk or just something that makes you feel good you know? it makes a difference
Or even blast some good toons... while doing the dishes.. its a fantastic pick me up (i haaaate dishes) just start dancing...
Youll figure it out0
