I recently heard about these and that they can help a person feel full. I don't think they are too high in calories. Has anyone eaten these and what was your experience?

Chia seeds? I got some of these to try. I had them in water, but I didn't like that (kind of frog spawn effect). I have them now in porridge (oatmeal). They swell up a bit and I hardly notice they're in there, just a slight crunch maybe. The first couple of times, I felt a little fuller, but I have no idea if that's just psychological. They're apparently a source of fibre, omega 3 and some minerals, although I don't know how much you have to eat to get any benefit.

I'm using them in my morning juice (from juicer). So far, so good.

    Hello,

I eat them...They have a tapioca consistency...Sooooo...I get sugar free pudding and add them in as a low cal snack..add them also to my yogurt and oatmeal and shakes..BUT...they have to sit for a little bit to swell...Look at the below websites..they are helpful...

I have never had them but I plan on buying some so I can try these refrigerator oatmeal recipes. We are coming up on summer here and I don't want warm oatmeal.

I don't know about making you feel fuller...
but I've been eating chia seeds for a few years now...
I like them in yogurt...but recently I started putting them into my post workout smoothies
I use a brand called Salba...which I buy at the health food store...
Salba is just the white seeds which are supposed to be better than the black seeds
their recommended daily intake is 2 tbsp
my dad was the one who got me on this brand...he had nothing but good things to say about it
he also got my 92 year old Grandma taking it, she was having some sort of discomfort walking
she said within a week of taking it she noticed a huge improvement

I put chia seeds on my salad, on my cottage cheese, on top of yogurt, in smoothies, and my favorite is in vegan overnight oatmeal.

I put it in yogurt or oatmeal, I occasionally add to smoothies but I done like the texture even after magic bulleting it. For me it adds about another hour of fullness after breakfast which is great because I eat lunch late, I can definitely tell when I've forgotten them. Aside from that they're full of good stuff an I enjoy people's reactions when I tell them I'm eating cha-cha-cha-chia! Seeds :)

I bought some from Raley's in the health food section. They are Bob's Red Mill brand. They are so weird....like little bugs! I do like them though and can't wait to make some chia seed pudding. I put some in juice the other day and made jelly which was kinda neat....there are all kinds of web sites out there with recipes.

chia seeds aren't really what i would consider a "low calorie" food. they're about 60 calories/tablespoon, but they are full of fiber and omega 3s so i feel that they're worth it.

i make a chia seed pudding that is super simple:

    1/2 cup chia seeds
2 cups original almond milk (you could use the unsweetened or sweeter vanilla kind, but then i would adjust next ingredient accordingly)
1-2 tablespoon honey (or agave, or stevia, but i HATE agave and stevia) depending on your sweetness preference
dash of vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg (optional, but i really like them in there)

stick it in the fridge, stir a couple of times over the next hour, and let sit overnight.
you'll wake up to a pudding that is similar in consistency to tapioca pudding.

it yields 2-4 servings depending on if you want a small or hearty serving.

i like to mixed in as many sliced strawberries as i can fit into a serving (you can get about a pint of strawberry slices into a half serving, lol).

I still think about chia pets when the seed topic comes up. : ) I add chia seeds to my protein shake. They expand in like a tapioca kind of gel, but I haven't noticed if they make me feel any fuller. I find them at whole foods.

The omega3, antioxidants and fiber benefits are worth the calories! You should try them!

I can see them but I don't notice the texture, especially not in the oatmeal.

They don't add a texture really, I think it's more of the visual effect, they look like a glob of frog eggs! I, however, love them and add them to a lot of my foods!

I've been putting them in my yogurt and oatmeal. They don't add much taste or texture. I wish they were a lighter color (I also put flax meal in those foods and they look more appealing) but I am getting used to it. The only problem is that some days it seems that they get stuck in my teeth and then turn into a little gross looking ball later (assuming they are absorbing spit or water). That happened yesterday so today I am going to try rinsing my mouth out right after eating or taking a tooth brush to work.

Another thing you can do is add them to what you're baking...
