So. I thought I was doing "ok". I thought I was starting to get somewhere..
Then I go to see the nurse today and she asked me to get on the scales and they read an entire 14lbs heavier than mine at home. WTF?!!?!?
I am sitting here trying not to cry.

I know it's upsetting, but look at it this way... have you been weighing yourself consistently on your own scales at home since tracking your loss?
If so, then you have still lost your 18lbs, you've just had a slight adjustment made to your starting point. Don't worry, another few months will soon get rid of that.
Imagine if you hadn't been trying to lose at home, then you really would have been upset! x0 -
Ignore the doctor's scale. You started with yours and are making progress on yours. Feel good about that!0
-
Maybe it's time for a different scale. Is yours accurate enough?0
-
Scales are different from one another. I'm sure if you had one in a different room it would read different than the one you use regularly. Don't get so caught up in it. As long as you know you're moving in the right direction. Also, if you weigh in the morning at home, first thing, you will weigh less than at the doctors office, with clothes, shoes and everything else on. Weight can fluctuate at least up to 5 pounds a day.0

There scales have to be out..That is why l only weigh myself on one set of scales and will never weigh myself on anyone else scales.
You are doing great, keep up the great work you are doing and never give up..
Believe in yourself..I believe in you..0 -
Yes I have been weighing on the same scale. I thought they were accurate (they read the same as the wii fitness stuff does?) but the nurses were digital so I guess not0
-
You are doing great...you making healthier choices and you're moving towards your goal. Who cares what the Dr. scale said. You are comparing on your scale. Apples to Apples.
Plus you should throw the scale away and go by BF% and how your clothes fit.0 -
Don't worry about it. Different scales have different readings, if you are basing your progress from your initial reading on your own scales, then you have definitely lost weight. Also, I'm guessing you were clothed at the nurses, whereas I am usually undressed at home, so you have to take that into account as well. Keep going, you are making progress, and you will get there! :flowerforyou:0

You've still lost the weight. As somebody else said, you've been making that progress =]
It could be that the Nurses scales are out. I have spent a lot of time in hospital and on the ward I was on, we had to be weighed every weekend and one weekend EVERYBODY had gained an awful lot of weight and it was only when they recorded all that they realised the scales were broken. x0 -
My doctor's scales are all higher than mine too. The last time I went in after losing tons of weight, I made sure that I wore sandals so I could take them off. I wore the lightest weight clothes possible (shorts and a lightweight shirt). I took off my rings and took my cell phone out of my pocket. I only weighed in 2 pounds higher than my home one. Oh I also made sure that I hadn't eaten or drank anything before I went in. I also went to the bathroom first too. It seems funny all the things that I tried to make the numbers lower. Now that I look back it, it reminds me of the women who go play Bingo and they bring all their "lucky" items with them to win. LOL I've been told the scale is our enemy. Just hang in there and continue on your journey. I am right there beside you!0

The same thing happened to me. I just watch the progress on my scale, the gym scale, the freight scale at work...... they all read something different, but I know what the number WAS on all of them!0

:noway: Sorry to hear that, I think you need to get some new scales at home. I had that problem a couple of years ago year when I kept weighing myself and my scales said I had lost over 2 stones. When I went to the doctors for a routine check up, she weighed me and I was a stone heavier then my scales and thats when I thought get some new scales that are more precise, however I have weighed myself at places like (Boots, UK Chemist) and they are a couple of pounds different which can be annoying.
Also dont forget you could also be losing inches which wont show up on the scales. Hope it works out for you0 -
i don't have scales so i don't weigh myself .. that might not be the right way to do it .. but hey .. i go by how i feel and how my clothes feel .. and my clothes say i've lost some .. also saw a show recently where measuring ur waist, hips etc was preferred to actual weight loss on scales .. that's my 2 cts worth .. chin up, breast out, click ur heels and flick ur hair ................ u can do it !! xxx0

Scales cause more pain than anything else....You have still lost weight....just because your scales don’t say the same!
Ok this is embarrassing, I used to weigh myself at factory using tins as a guide.
e.g. wk one 200 cans
wk2 197cans etc etc
I still lost weight and so have you, whether it's in pounds, kilograms or paint tins0 -
Once you'll reach your goal weight on your own scale you'll care less about the other one...
Good luck for your journey!!!0 -
IGNORE THE DOCTOR'S SCALE: This is what the nurse there told me the last time I visited: Their scales are SUPPOSED to be calibrated regularly, but they do not do it - she told me she couldn't even remember the last time it was done. That's why we typically see a different number than at home. When I was really upset (and the scale was only 4 lbs different), she used my weight from home based on my taking it everyday at the same time. I use two different scales - one the old kind and one a new EatSmart digital. I keep one on one side of the room, one on the other side of the room. The old one is typically 2 lbs lower than the new one, sometimes only 1 lb diff and sometimes 3 lbs different. I always go by what I started - the old one, but I login every single day in my "exercise notes" what both scales say. I only login my weight here when the old one goes down. I have a gyne appt today and normally I'd fear "the doctor's scale", but I know what my weight is on an everyday basis so I'm not gonna let ANY doctor's scale scare me anymore! As long as you're being honest with yourself and what YOUR scale tells you, try not worrying about the doctor's office0

Don't fret over it as everyone else has said. I weighed myself at home and I was 61kg so thought I only had 1kg to lose to reach my target weight of 60kg. Doctor's scale put me back up at 63kg barely 2 days later :laugh:0

When I got my scales, digital ones, I went to several pharmacies, went on their scales, went home, got on mine to check they tallied, which they did. That way, I know they are pretty much accurate to begin with. I suggest getting a new set of scales if you want to be sure.0

I say, if youre going to weight yourself, use ONE scale. Which ever one you starting tracking your weight on, is the one you should continnue tracking your loss on. I dont think anything is wrong with those scales, if you would have "started" tracking on their scale.
It finally sunk in my brain that the scale is not very useful, measurements are. You track your loss by measuring and if your dropping inches, youre shrinking. If your clothes are fitting better, looser, youre shrinking. Just because youre shrinking, doesnt mean youre losing weight. I actually just gained over inch in my biceps. My first reaction was "wtf!?" Then realized, my muscles grew! Theres a HUGE difference between muscle gain and fat loss.. but that a whole other topic.
Dont fret, be proud of your journey.0 -
get some weights or some bags of 1kg sugar and put them on the scale, see what weight they say for that then it will give you an idea how accurate they are, saying that though i can lose 1lb by moving the scales from one side of the room to the other :laugh:0

My dr.'s scale says I am 20lbs heavier than I really am and they are trying to figure out how 165 5' 3 and 3/4" fits in a 6 to an 8. It is because a) different time of day b) clothes c) all scales are different. If the scale you have been weighing on daily says that you have lost 14 lbs you have lost 14 lbs. I looked at it from the other stand point if their scale says I am 165 it means when I was over 200 I was way over 200 and my loss is the same. DON'T DESPAIR YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!!!!!!!0

The doctors scale runs about 5lbs more than mine. I feel your pain.0

This is brilliant!
I had the opposite thing happen. I don't have a scale and have to wait 4 incredibly long weeks between weigh-ins with my personal trainer. So when visiting a friend i stepped on the scale in her bathroom and was about 10 pounds less than i thought. I was skeptical, but heartbroken the next week at my PT weigh in when i found the 10 pound gap.
I'm waiting for the FitBit scale to be available and i'm going to get one and only pay attention to that one. Hopefully it will be close to my PT's scale since i assume she'll not trust me and want to continue to weigh me herself.
But in any case, the important thing is the DIFFERENCE. You have DEFINITELY lost the weight. There is just confusion about the actual starting point. So embrace the success and start weighing yourself against paint cans or sacks of flour and forget about pounds or KGs or stones! And congratulations!!!0 -
I know that feeling, my doctors scales are slightly heavier (about 6lbs) than my home scales and it does feel at the time like I've put on weight. But that's not true, you've still lost the same amount of weight it's just that there are discrepancies between the two scales.0
-
As everyone else says, ignore the doctor's scales. You have no way of knowing whether they are right or yours are. The important thing is the relative weightloss. If you've ever tried weighing yourself at different point during the day, you'll notice that the readings vary massively - weighing yourself at a different time of day than you're used to might have had a big impact on the reading. Keep weighing yourself at the same time each day on your own scales and feel proud of yourself!! N.B. if you say anything about 'but my scales at home say this', they may well give you a knowing look and assume you're lying or stupid.0

Yes I have been weighing on the same scale. I thought they were accurate (they read the same as the wii fitness stuff does?) but the nurses were digital so I guess not
Personally I am not a big believer in the scale. That being said, if you started out with your scale then go with that. It just means their scale is calibrated differently. Your start number on their scale would have been that much higher too. You have still lost what you lost and you are doing fantastic!!!!:flowerforyou:0 -
Don't get too upset. By the time you wen to the doc you had probably eaten, held your bladder, whatever. Pick one scale and only weigh in on that one.0
