Though the scale is an important tool, I find that it is the Non Scale Victories that are really the most inspiring to me. I still have a lot of work to do, but I am happy with some of the progress I have made so far.
I have three I can think of-- one was a couple of years back-- I took on a huge, steep hill that only a year earlier I had really struggled with, to say the least. I had to stop twice going up, and by the time I got to the top it took me about 10 minutes to recover so I could move on. My heart was pounding out of my chest and I could hardly breathe! But one year later, I took that same hill in one shot, kept my breathing under control, and though I apparently looked worn out (a lady stopped to ask if I needed help LOL) I was able to keep right on going when I hit the top!
Another was when I went into the Dress Barn Woman a couple of years ago, where I have been shopping for years. The nice lady behind the counter walked up and said, "Oh no, Honey, this is the PLUS size clothing store, you're in the wrong place!" And directed me to the regular Dress Barn at the other end of the mall. I had to convince her I was in the right place. That cracked me up-- I was a 16 or 18 depending on the cut, but I must have looked fitter, which was nice.
And the last one is that, after many, many years of being too large to fit safely in them, I was able to ride the big swings at the amusement park again. That was so much fun!
What about all of you? What successes have you enjoyed? I am curious to know your favorites!

I haven't been on a rollercoaster since the early 90's due to my weight gain and size. I was always worried that we would wait in that long line just to be told that I couldn't fit in the seat and harness. So a few years ago my husband and I went to Bush Gardens and I decided I would try to ride the Alpinegeist rollercoaster...I fit in the seat and was able to buckle my harness. It was such a thrill and really made me feel so much better than what the scale would ever show me.
The other NSV that I had was just a few weeks ago. I was entering my starting measurements on MFP that I had written down from last fall and re-measured myself and found that I had lost 1" from my chest, 3" from my waist and 3" from my hips. Also much more affirming to me than what the scale says!0 -

That is great! And actually, that is the very same amusement park I was at-- Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA! You are braver than me-- I am too chicken to do Alpengeist! LOL0 -
My scale is a lying B****! She never changes so I've given up on the numbers and focus more on whats important to me; how my clothes look and feel. As a single white female addicted to retail, I have a closet full of clothes and they are my biggest inspiration. I bought a measuring tape as surely I was losing inches if the scale wasnt moving but that lied to me too. How can I fit in smaller clothes if Im still as jolly as I was 5 weeks ago? Whatevs... I've have a few good NSVs this week and are as follows:
- Fit into a size 22 pant. They arent stretchy and forgiving like most of my fat girl clothes are which means its must be the cut. I tried on 3 different styles of pants in a 22 and they all fit!
- Bought a new top last night in my typical xxl to cover my muffin and found its WAY too big. An xl or *gasp* a large would have fit!
- A coworker asked if I had lost weight. When I laughed and said it was the opposite, she said my stomach looked slimmer and my *kitten*, tighter.
- While waiting in line this morning, a group of 5 construction guys unabashedly stared at my hump for a good 5 minutes. I caught them, smiled and squeezed those cheeks a little tighter (whether it was good staring or bad, I dont know nor care)
- My boobs shrank. Although Im not super impressed by this, Its nice that I will now fit into VS bras!0 -
I ride my bike home from work. There is a left-turn where I am in the lane where the cars go. Last year, I could trip the signal (you know the in-grounds sensors are triggered by weight). This year - I can't get the light to change because I'm not heavy enough to trigger to sensor! Now, I just run lights and avoid on-coming cars ;-)0

When people who haven't seen me for awhile look absolutely stunned at my "new" body (even though I still have so far to go). I saw a friend a couple of weeks ago whom I hadn't seen for over a year. When I opened the door, she let out a little scream and said "You're like a whole new person!!!!" It just made me feel AMAZING!0

That is so much fun. I sent a friend request to someone I hadn't seen in a decade and she completely freaked out at how different I looked. It was cool. .

Had NSV's last night and today. I managed Day 6 of 30DS yesterday morning and went walking/slow jogging (up and down hill) last night with my boyfriend. First NSV is that I had the energy to push for evening exercise any at all, better yet I managed to shorten the evening walk/jog by almost 20 mins (it normally takes us an hour) especially since we hadn't gone in about 2 weeks! Even better still is that I wasn't as short of breath as I normally am and I when I was jogging (mine is really more of a shuffle) I felt so much stronger doing it than before and not gasping for air when I stopped. My fitness is improving - yay me! Second NSV - my size 14 jeans had started sagging a little since I've been logging my food and they're now at the point where I can pull them down without undoing the button or zipper:drinker: Was worried for a minute they'd fall off since I wasn't wearing a belt today.
With victories like that I'm not even worried about what the scale will say on Sunday when I do my weigh in.0 -
I saw an old dear friend who never ever made snide remarks about my weight when i picked her up at the airport. Last time I saw her, I was 260 lbs.
She walked right by me and when I went after her, she was speechless at how much weight I had lost and was curious if I had become a heroin addict..0 -

That is so cool! I am feeling stronger, too. I wish I was seeing the same effect in my clothes as you are! Maybe in another month or two. :happy:0 -

It is great to get that kind of surprised reaction! I am a little surprised that her brain went straight to heroin as the cause, though!0 -
This might not sound like a big deal, but to me......Sat in a booth for the first time in years the other day.0

That can be a big deal, man! I remember having to really squeeze in on more than one occasion! That's like the airplane seat belt victory! Great!0
