Protein after a workout

Hi just wondering what snacks / protein shakes you all have after a workout?

I get to the gym at 6am and workout for between 60 - 90mins then by the time I settle in at work and stuff I end up having breakfast at around 9.30am - I'm conscious that I need to be refueling a bit sooner than 2 hours later. With that in mind I've been trying protein shakes but every one that I've tried with water (maybe that's where I'm going wrong) has just tasted awful!

Now I'm not being a princess but I really can't bring myself to drink the powder mixed with water version. I've picked up the pre-mixed milk based ones before and they've been fine - do I just need to add milk to get a similar bareable taste? The pre-mixed ones just become a bit exxy after a couple of weeks.

Is there anything else quick and easy that I could try instead?

I carry a cooler in my truck with my food for the work day. Get to the gym about 5am and am back at my truck about 6:45. I have my shaker, a zip lock full of whey protein powder and a 16oz container of 2% milk in the cooler.

When I get to the truck after my workout I pour the milk and either one or two scoops of strawberry protein powder into the shaker. Drink it down and then drive to work. Nice tasty breakfast and I know that the protein is going right to work for muscle recovery and growth.

I would say milk makes it better. I try the premade before and those remind me of medicine. I been using the GNC chocolate micro release and that taste ok for a shake. With the GNC I don't add the 3 scoops I cut it down to 2 scoops with 10oz of milk. Vanilla and cream is the other flavor I use.

I think using skim milk would make it taste much better....I always use at least 1 cup of skim & sometimes will add a cup of water also plus I use the chocolate b/c it tastes just like chocolate milk....HTH! :)

I keep a container of hard boiled eggs in the fridge and like to have one of those after a workout.

i used to use chocolate powder mix with milk, it was horrible with water and when i switched to milk it was enjoyable.
also banana with some pb, sometimes with rice cakes too if i worked out in the morning, i also would enjoy something with chick peas, hummus was easy for me to have with maybe some whole grain pita bread. it is always nice to switch it out i used to get burnt out just drinking a protein mix. if you get the strawberry mix, a banana with that may be yummy :D
sometimes throw an apple in the mix too, very tasty with the pb!

I use the GNC cookies and cream! Tastes great and since it is for recovery and not bulking up I use 1 scoop.

If your in Australia, try BSC they do a chocolate one and also one for women OMG tastes like chocolate thickshake.

You can find it in coles or woolworths or very cheap on line at http://www.vitaminking.com.au/search.php?mode=search&page=1

I make it with Skimmed longlife milk from aldi, trust me tried a few but this one is so lush! low in fat, carbs and calories but has 18.7g of protein per serve

    ENJOY :drinker:

I usually just add a scoop of protein powder to a cup of skim milk before my workout and add it to chocolate milk after my workout, 29g of protein right there with each drink.

I know what you mean avout the taste using just water. I will hack it down if i dont want to spend the extra calories.

I do mix it up a few ways though:

Try 8oz of Soy Slender Chocolate, 4oz of water and your protein powder (vanilla or chocolate).

I'll also do 8oz of water, protein powder, and EAS low carb chocolate (11oz)

Not sure if there is a difference in taste, but I only use isolate protien powders.
