Water

So for most of my day I'm either busy or I just plain forget and end up not drinking water. Now don't see this as me drinking soda or anything else, it's that I'm just not drinking anything. I tend to drink at meal times, when I take medication, and the morning cup of coffee. But normally I just forget to drink.

Now I know it's better to drink an even amount of water through out the day, but what if I drink at intervals?

For example: I just got off work. Now I can't drink as much as I should while working because I don't want to be running to the bathroom every ten minutes. As soon as I could though, I chugged a HUGE (think 3-4 cup) of water. I tend to do this daily. Then again right before dinner I'll drink another glass or two, then with dinner. Then after dinner, I drink another full 1-2 cups of water with my meds.

Is this okay? I figure as long as I'm getting the water, it's okay if it's a tad sporadic, right?

Doesn't sound too bad. How big is your morning cup of coffee? All of my cups hold around 12 oz. So there's 1-1/2 c right off the bat. I drink a tall glass first thing, 14 oz., to take my thyroid pill...and I'm already at 3 c and I haven't left for work yet. I drink about 3 c of tea at work, then a couple more in the evening. Doesn't sound dramatically different from what you're doing. Remember, if you are eating lots of veggies during the day, that counts toward your hydration. You may not want to log it as water, but your body registers water from food as if it were a cup of water.

I think my coffee cup holds around the same amount, maybe a bit smaller.

And I eat carrots, apples, and oranges pretty much daily. And bananas if they are on sale. Haha.

    Thanks for the input though.

As long as you get enough, it doesn't matter how it's spaced out. If you're not getting enough, having it more spaced out during the day would be better, since you'll pee out a bunch when you have alot, and not have anything while you're dried out.

Personally, I try to keep sipping water throughout the day, so I get plenty of water all day long. I drink about a gallon of water a day, because I'm just that thirsty. I like to say I'm doing an impression of a camel most of the time! I drink more around meals than I do the rest of the day, plus 2 in the morning for my pills and vitamins, and another 1-2 at night for my nighttime pills and vitamins. I don't count coffee, food sources, or other flavored beverages towards my water count either. I get an insane amount of fluids every day, but it really keeps me from feeling too hungry most of the time!

Liquids have been a real challenge for me too - any of them - but for the last couple of weeks I've made a very hard effort to get my water in. I fill up my 1000ml (32 oz) water bottle and carry it with me. I tend to chug a bit and then leave it for awhile and then have some more. I'm getting two and sometimes three (on workout days) in by really making it easy to drink it - if it's in front of me and open, I'll have some! I also think it will get easier over time - just have to start the habit. Our bodies will thank us!

I keep a big bottle with me where ever I go......That helped me get in the habit of drinking water more often. It was hard at first because I absolutely hated water, now I find I actually crave it.
  • I tie it to my eating. First thing out of bed in the morning I drink a glass while making breakfast and then have a glass with breakfast. My after breakfast treat is my cup of coffee that I drink while getting set up to work for the day. All the rest of the day anytime I eat, which is 5 more times including snacks, I drink a glass of water when I go prepare my food and drink another one with my food. I'll usually have an extra glass or two while working out. I use a juice size glass that holds 8 ounces and it is effortless and requires no thought process. When I started it was one glass of water every time I ate and I moved it up from there. I feel great! =)

Its better to sip it throughout the day so that it can get absorbed rather than filtered out. Carry a water bottle and you will find you will drink ALOT more, and you can monitor it to not go to the restroom. I work outdoors and, as a female, being able to go to the restroom during the workday is not possible most of the time. I sip moderately at those times. You will learn what is the balance between staying hydrated and needing to urinate.

Drinking a glass with each meal like Kristi does works great because it helps the food break down and absorb better, and also helps you to feel full.
