joined the gym last month and am really struggling to get the weight off. Thought that I had cut back on the amount of food that I eat, was really bad with sweets, but I am hoping that the food tracker will show whats really going on. will have to say that I am shocked by what the calories were for the pizza I had today, although I had to pick what I thought was closest to what I had, since it was a local pizza place.

Log everything you eat or drink. That's the best way to see what's really going on with your food intake.0

To lose weight, you have to eat whole food - fruits, vegetables, nuts, proteins. Limit or eliminate sugar and grains - they're bad for you and put weight on as well as make it difficult to lose weight. Pizza is very high in bad carbs. I love dessert, but I eat healthy desserts. For example: I'll freeze a couple of bananas. Then, I'll take 2 frozen bananas, 1 tbsp. raw cacao powder and 1/8 tsp. vanilla extract and blend it in my blender. Instant chocolate ice cream! Dieting is not about depriving yourself, but about finding alternate or better food choices. I can take just about any food and make a healthy version of it... Like pizza! (I make the crust out of nut flour or I'll make a cauliflower crust pizza, which by the way my 14 year old loves - and she's picky!)0

log BEFORE you eat. log the night before. planning is the key to success.
do not just "go to the gym." go to the gym with a plan and purpose. use your calendar to plan what you are going to do on certain days (cardio, strength training, zumba, etc) and stick to it. keep track of what you did those days. that which gets measured, gets improved.0 -
I have a problem with sweets too! But for a snack I usually eat the 100 calorie snacks like yogurt and snack bars. There are so many options when you go to the grocery store. I've been somewhat cutting back on carbs as well and it's helped me a lot. I do have 1 cheat day during the week to reward myself for all my hard work
Oh and definitely eat healthier! Veggies, fruits, lean protein!0 -
Hi kellysmom, I have to say I was surprised how many calories were in some of my favorite food, too!
I have not given up sweets or treats, I just eat less of them. I have made a point of exercising 6 days a week, although my original goal was 4. I have really liked the Jillian Michaels DVDs, because I can do them at home, and they combine weight training with cardio and abs.
I think a good idea would be to take a few days and look at where the problem areas are in eating habits, and adjust your food intake based on that. I think drinking sodas (diet and sugary sodas) are a huge downfall for many, so I have a soda very infrequently. I also think that tracking every thing you eat (even sampling the frosting I made today, I recorded that - the 4 jellybeans I snuck before dinner last week, I recorded that, etc.) will help you get an accurate picture of your calorie intake.
If you need help or ideas, there are tons around here! Let me know if I can help you, too!0 -
Thanks for all the helpful advice, tracking is really an eye opener!:noway:0
