Hello,
I am 32 and I am struggling to lose weight. I have a doctor's appt tomorrow since my lab results came back with low TSH (hypothyroid) I have been battling with my weight since 2003 when I first found out I had thyroid problems. I lost 50lbs last year but then I got pregnant and in my first trimester my thyroid was out of control I gained 60 LBS...I just had my baby 5 weeks ago and will start insanity tomorrow I am ready to get rid of this weight so I can feel better about myself..So far I have been eating cleaner mainly vegeterian life style but since my thyroid is out of wack I have'nt lost any weight and the 2 lbs I lost so far I gain them back with no problems. Hopefully tomorrow my doctor can change my meds so that I can start losing weight...I hate having this problem :(

I had graves disease at first but it took a toll on my liver and kidneys so I had to have a total thyroidectomy so now I am hypothyroid which to me makes it harder because at times my body wont absorb my meds making my TSH go out of wack!!! hints the weight gain and all the problems that goes along with it

I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer back in 2001 and also had a Thyroidectomy so i know how you feel. I have battled my weight forever!! Being Hypo makes it harder to lose weight but it's not impossible. With a good doctor that helps us control our TSH levels and watching what we eat and exercise we can prevail. I still hate getting full body scans because that would mean I had to quit taking my medicine for a whole month so I would gain 50 lbs. in a month!!! It was miserable but I did survive and am back to working on my lifestyle change. As for children, I also was diagnosed with (PCOS) Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which means I did not ovulate at all. Would shed the lining but no eggs were being released for fertilization. So I found a fertility specialist and began Clomid and 6 months later i became pregnant. Anything is possible, we just have to understand how our body works and what is lacking. I just started MFP and feel great and look forward to reaching my goal!

Are you looking for a 25 year old with no thyroid. I battle my weight and my low energy every day. I had my thyroid removed in 2011 due to lipoma.

Having thyroid problems sucks!!!! But we can do it with motivation and determination
  • Hi ya, I hope you get things sorted? I have all the symptoms of an under-active Thyroid and have had a couple of blood tests at my Doctors which didn't show anything up. I started taking Kelp supplements which have a high Iodine content and my weight is shifting, quite quickly. Can't say for definate it's them helping but I'm happy and maybe worth a try as they are cheap to buy.

I have had Hashimoto's thyroiditis for over 20 years, body attacks the thyroid making you hypothyroid. The weight is a struggle always, but ask your doctor about Armor Thyroid, it is a natural form of thyroid hormone dessicated porcine (pig) thyroid and more closely mirrors the ratio of T3 to T4 that we normally need. When you get Levothyroxine or Synthroid it only has T4 in it. Some people feel an immediate energy gain when they take it. I am a RN who has done mega research on my thyroid and I have a Holistic MD who has me on a great supplement program and Armor thyroid, along with MFP now losing 2 lbs a week pretty steady! Add me if you would like!

I went in at the end of March to my general physician for metabolic and hormone testing. All my T3 & T4s are normal, but my anti-bodies are out of range.... he said it may be Hashimoto's but I'm going to a specialist on May 1st to find out. I think the combination of encorine issues during my high risk pregnancy and the losing weight has left my body way out of sorts. I just don't feel like myself and I know something is up. I should have had tests done right after I had my children because I felt amazingly healthy then and was at the lowest weight I can remember (236 lbs.). I am currently at 240 lbs. (getting close to the lowest weight) down from 349 lbs. a few years ago. It's been a struggle to lose every single ounce... a daily contstant battle where I feel like everything for me is all uphill. I work out way too much and eat way to healthily to still be so heavy, so exhuasted and to never ever get a decent restful night's sleep. I'm hoping to get a clearer answer after I go in May to the specialist. Not that I want to have something wrong with me, but I want an answer to what's going on. My body is insanely strange right now with these dark skin patches and rough texture to my face... weird hair growth that has never ever been there... my fingernails are thin, dry, peeling and break at a moment's notice. Ya know, just little stuff like that that causes me to say, "Hey! What gives?" Hoping to find out but nervous to do so at the same time.

I was 103% over active over 25 years ago. Back then they used radio active iodine. Killed mine and have been on pills ever since. In the beginning my DR was nice and gave me a slightly higher dose to help with the weight loss. Over the years as you get older it is harder to lose. I gained about 80 lbs in those 25 years. But can't blame they thyroid for all of it. I have eaten my fair share. MFP has finally helped me to lose 28 so far. More to go. Just keep them testing till you get the dose right. I have been on same dose for 20 years. Good luck everyone!!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 21 and now I'm getting ready to turn 37. I have always struggled with my weight, even when I thought I was skinny. I take 175mcg and I feel good at this level. If I don't take it for a few days, I can tell I get cranky and stay tired. Losing weight can be done, it just seems you have to work a little extra harder than most people. You are not in this alone and together we can lose the weight together

I have hypothyroid but for me it's been a blessing because when I was undiagnosed there was a while when I couldn't eat much of anything or even look at food without feeling nauseous. I lost 23 pounds! (I was 210) Feel free to add me if you wish, I hope to lose 55 more.

I use to be extremely fit and slim until I had my first kid then got diagnosed with hypo years ago. I totally understand about the weight issues. when I finally got on the right meds (synthroid and armor thyroid) I was able to lose my weight, biut then I got prego again and gained back all the weight. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I am down to my last 20lbs.... have lost 61lbs so far even if its not on my MFP profile cuz i got off the wagon and stopped posting.

you may add me if you like, good luck to you hon!!!

I also have hypothyroid. I am 23 years old and I was about 12 or 13 when the Dr. started testing for it. I had blood test done every 4 months but it fluctuated from normal to whack every other visit. I finally got medicine around 15. You are definitely not alone in this battle. I now have new battles that I am facing with it, but I am hoping that eventually I will be able to get it under control. :) Feel free to add me if you would like! :D
  • I found out back in 2000. My weight will drop to 175lbs, i get stuck and before I know it I'm 185-190

You can add me if you'd like. I told my dr. I thought I was hypothyroid and he tsk-tsked me for years before he finally tested me. I'm on 125 mcg's and have lost 59 pounds total in over a year. It's slow, but coming. I find that adding spices like cumin, curry, tumeric, and cinnamon to my foods help to increase my metabolism to help burn calories. Some days the energy just isn't there to do what I know I should, but I listen to my body first and foremost. Pushing too much does more harm than good. A balance is key to success.

Motivation has never been my problem its my weight that keeps stalling no matter how hard I workout and that's when I get frustrated and depress..I really hope to find resolution soon because all I want to do is be at a healthy weight..I'm not even looking to be super skinny just out of the obese range

I was diagnosed 23 years ago after my twins. Every now and again they try and tweak my meds and it throws everything all to hell . Just persevere and move on. I sometimes feel that I'm fighting an up hill battle but keep on plugging along!

I take 90 mg of Armour Thyroid. I've been on Armour for a little over a year. I took Levothyroxin for two years before that. I started MFP in November, and am about to hit the 50 pound mark. One of my proudest moments at my endo was when he told me that I lost weight because of what I was doing - not because of my medicine. It's just something to keep in mind. Thyroid meds will keep you functioning, but they are not diet pills. You still have to do the work.

I totally hear ya..but my tsh is plummeting so I know my meds needs to be re-evaluated. Like I said I lost 50lbs then I got pregnant so I know its possible

I sent a request. Have had an under active thyroid for about a year. Doctor says my meds counteract that but it is still hard to loose weight even thought I lift 4-5 times a week. We can do this, will just take time and determination!

I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid with goiter which is the swelling of the neck when I was 16 years old. It's a struggle everyday. I will be so tired that I do not want to get out of bed. A lot of people at work think that I just need more sleep, but don't understand that I have thyroid issues. Nor do I care to share it because I don't want it to be an excuse. I have a sign a coworker got me that says "Yawnville"!
