Bruised: Lesson Learned!

I did Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown for the first time yesterday. It was rough, and I had to modify things a bit, but I made it through! The problem is I had to be on my knees for a lot of the moves (I can't think of a way to make that sound less dirty...lol) and now I'm bruised all over my knees and even a bit on my shin! I guess I should have made sure to have a softer mat since I have laminate floors. Ooops. :ohwell: Now I'll have to wait until the pain subsides before I can do the video again. I was expecting muscle soreness, but this totally threw me!

Anyone else have any "duh" moments when starting a new exercise routine? Please help me feel less of an idiot! Hehehehe.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but...I used to work out and be quite active. Then i got pregnant and being active sort of became a thing of the past. Well I had my baby and was really determined to get a lot of this weight off. I gained 60 pounds with my daughter. Well people warned me and told that i need to ease into exercising and running. I didn't listen and now i hurt my hip pretty bad and for the last two weeks can barely walk. Next time i'll listen!!! Soo so much for losing weight like i wanted to a bit quicker. :( I hope you feel better soon!

If you have trouble with your knees like that, you can put a blanket or a towel under them. What were you doing that had you kneeling so much?

I bought a thicker mat tonight, but maybe I can do the towel thing until the bruises go away. I was on my knees for modified pushups...I have no idea how to spell what she called them. LOL. There were a couple that were similar in having beginners on their knees rather than balls of the feet. BUT: I will stick it out and I WILL get to the point of not needing to do the modified forms!
    Rawr!

Thanks! I was just giving my friend the same advice tonight. She tends to take an "all or nothing" approach to things, and I'm not quite so gung-ho as her, but I have to watch myself sometimes! I've been exercising for awhile now, but nothing as structured or intense as JM's stuff. Thanks for sharing...sounds like you're a bit stubborn like me  Get to feeling better!

Edited for typo. See what a perfectionist I am?

OUCH! I didn't notice the bruises until I knelt on a seat at work and something felt wrong. But skinned elbows? That's a different level of pain!

LOL,I feel your pain! I did Jillian's Yoga Meltdown Level 1 for the first time a couple of weeks back and I thought it would be fine without a mat because I was on a carpeted area. Totally wrong, I ended up with carpet burns on the outside of my left knee and elbow - think it's because that side must be weaker so was dragging along the ground more during some of the more complicated moves (which I have to do on my knees, as I don't have the upper body strength yet). Now I always use a mat regardless of surface type! I hope your bruising has gone down now.
