What's Your Excuse?

Making excuses not to excerise, we have all done it and some of us continue to do it. Motivation, support, and accountability has taken a huge role into my success of getting fit & healthy and it can yours to.

Excuse: Not losing weight fast enough. You don’t put weight on overnight and it won’t come off that quick either. I’ve learned this, hate this, and have quit so many times before giving myself the chance to succeed. It wasn’t until I joined Beachbody that I truly committed myself to a lifestyle change instead of being on a diet. Once you start exercising and making changes to what your eating, your body does start to respond. It takes 4 weeks for you to see your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends and family, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice. With the Beachbody Challenge you are with likeminded people that can relate and provide you with the support and motivation you need to keep going. I have learned to not just go by the numbers on the scale as they truly do not reflect the changes your body is making. I now gauge my success by how I feel, my energy level, my strength, how my clothes are fitting, and by doing this I’ve become healthier and fitter then I’ve ever been in my whole life…even pre-kids.

Excuse: You really hate to exercise. Enjoying exercise may seem impossible but it can be done. The beginning is always the hardest but with consistency and as your body gets stronger you’ll start to find that you actually enjoy it. You will look forward to your workouts, you’ll want to put in the effort and reap the rewards of feeling and looking good. I now look forward to my workouts and think about what workouts I am going to do each day. If I don’t get in my daily workouts its like not having my daily coffee, I feel off track, fatigued, easily irritated. Exercise for me is being the best person that I can be for myself and my family and friends.

Excuse: Your can’t seem to stay motivated or have no energy. We all have our moments when we are tired or stressed and its hard to even think about moving from that couch or from the computer to go workout. I know for me, the less I do, the lazier I feel. When I found I had no motivation I would wear my workout clothes, lace up my sneakers and just sit around the house, eventually I’d feel silly and give in and after I’d feel so much better and have energy. Or I’d tell myself to commit to just 10 minutes and then I could be done but most of the time after those 10 minutes I kept going and finished and I felt better! This again is why Beachbody has been so great for me, we all rely on each other for daily motivation and support. We must remember our goals and our WHY and remind ourselves of these every day. Exercise has increased my energy levels and leaves me feeling better about myself from the inside out.

Excuse: You don’t have the time or feel like your neglecting your family if you take the time to fit in exercise. I am a mom of 2 kids ages 3.5 and 1 year, I have a full time job in the insurance industry working 50 hrs a wk and I am a Beachbody Coach. I cook meals for my family every night, prepare lunches, keep the house clean, grocery shop, pay bills, schedule appointments, enjoy time with my kids and hubby every day, and the list just goes on. What I have learned is that carving time to workout will not only give you the energy you need for a busy schedule but you are also setting a good example for your kids, your showing them what it means to be healthy. Most importantly we have to take care of ourselves so we can be there for our family and friends so schedule your workout on your calendar like you would any other appointment. We don’t’ miss our doctor appointments, a salon appointment, a kids school function, so don’t miss your workout appointments. Commit yourself to being on time to your appointment with yourself to workout. Eventually your workout time with become second nature, it will just start to fit into your daily routine. Not having time is just an excuse, we all have the time, we all can make the time. If you can’t find a full 30 minutes during the day, break it up into 10 or 15 min segments. Get up a few minutes early, take 15 minutes of your lunch hour, get in a workout session right after work, put your clothes in the dryer to get out the wrinkles instead of ironing while you get in a quick workout, do squats while you brush your teeth. Get creative, find the time, make the time. Exercise generates energy, the more energy you have, the more you’ll get done each day.

An excuse is to justify a neglect. Don’t neglect yourself, your life, your body, your health, your happiness! Stop telling yourself you’ll start exercising and eating healthier tomorrow. Tomorrow has come and gone and your still making excuses. So when you find yourself making excuses remember your WHY and all the major benefits of working out….weight loss, lower body fat, decreased risk of illnesses/disease, reduced depression, increased energy and strength. Make yourself a priority and live life fit & healthy!

Well I haven't been going to the gym every day because in 10 days I have my IB exams (yes, my future depends on this) and YET I find time every day to jump rope a little bit at home or jog in place for a few minutes to my favorite song. Even burning 50 calories is SOMETHING and I reckon something is always better than nothing.

As far as I am concerned, if overtime is offered at work, I will GLADLY take the overtime. No reason why I cant modify my workout schedule for shift-differential and overtime rates.
