I love Chai; nearly fell over when I saw how much calories is in a standard restaurant Chai!!

Thanks for this! I having been making it with half a cup of microwaved skim milk and adding that to tea made with a Chai teabag; but this sounds much nicer

Bump! I'll end up having a slightly higher calorie count because I use cane sugar, not Truvia/Stevia... but still a tasty treat :) Thanks!
  • I have never had a Chai tea latte - but actually was asking someone yesterday to try and describe what it tastes like - as I am just a plain ol` Lipton tea drinker - but mostly a coffee drinker. I have only ordered Coffee Lattes at starbucks.

I am going to have to go out and get some Chai tea and try this recipe! Thanks for sharing!!!

    Bumping for later.
  • I loove Chai tea. One of my best friends is from India and her mother makes it for us in the mornings. Since we've stopped working together and I moved away I can't find anything comparable. I have recently started looking for a recipe and I ran across this. THANK YOU!

PS >> I am new to MFP and need friends, if anyone is interested, my goals are as follows:

    Age: 26
    SW: 157
    CW: 150
    GW: 127

    Height 5' 3"

I usually eat between meals and choose high-sugar, high-carb foods. I am trying SO hard to make consistently good choices and not loose patience with myself.

I usually use 1% milk in my home, are chai, but had tried the vanilla almond before and it's pretty good. I had forgotten though, thanks for the reminder. I was planning on having chai today so I'll use half milk and half almond, I think.

I make my chai from scratch in a huge pot, so I get 2-3 canning jars of it.

I don't measure, just eye it all.
About 8 cups water, 8 cinnamon sticks, 7 Cardamons pods - opened and the seeds scraped out, 2 tablespoon black peppercorn, 1 tablespoon whole cloves, a 2 inch piece of ginger sliced up into small pieces.
Heat in stove, add 8-10 tea bags- use a GOOD black tea! PG tips and Darjeeling work well. Bring to a boil for about 5 minutes, simmer about 10 minutes. Until you can see the water level has decreases (making it slightly more concentrated)

Strain, pour into jars, keep in the fridge.

For the best foamy milk, put your milk of choice into a jar ( so the milk fills it no more than 1/4 the way)
Shake the jar vigorously!! ! Remove lid and Microwave it. It will be all foamy and make your chai all fancy
