I keep going over on my protein all of my other numbers seem fine? Do you think it is something I should try to cut back more?

Replies

  • I don't know but I have been doing the same thing! I actually have like quite a bit to spare on the other numbers but go over every day on protien!

the settings for protein on this site (15%) seem way to low for me.

I think you should aim for 30% a day, and about 40% if you do moderate weight lifting.

With fat and carbs I use the amount shown as a maximum, whearas the protein amount is the minimum amount you should get, especially if you are doing any resistance training.

I wish I had your problem (not that I want any of us to have 'problems'). I just started MFP two days ago and I am having a rough time getting ENOUGH protein. I expect it will take me about a week to find the balance in the diet and then it should be easier, but for now- frustration!

have you customized your protein percent? If not, then it's running at about 16% which is a little low IMHO if you exercise. I wouldn't worry about being at about 20% protein. But question, how is it possible for all your other numbers to be right on if protein isnt? You must be lower in something else (either carbs or fat) or else you'll be over in calories total because the 3 should add up to your calories.
  • Try asking your Dr. about seeing a dietitian or nutritionist. a dietitian or nutritionist takes into account various aspects of life, exercise, medications and medical conditions. and will help you with these typs of questions. a very individualized program

    good luck---vw
  • Try customizing your percentages. If you lower your carbs, your protein should increase automatically....at least that's what mine did.

there are ways to increase protein besides the usual like dairy, legumes/beans i use Nestle Carnation Instant Breakfast: i personally use the No Sugar Added carnation drink to cut calories, 1 packet with fat free/skim), 1.5 cups (the carnation shake directions say 1 cup of milk but that is way to sweet for me so 1.5 cups... this alone is 18 grams of protien.

and you could try some of the bariatric websites they have info on low calorie, high protein resources

    try... http://www.vitalady.com/protein.htm
vitalady allows you to purchase samples of products

this product below is Nectar Medical Unflavored Sample this has 10 grams of protein per serving
