Too Few Calories?

MFP has set me at 1240 calories a day. That's fine and I usually come in at or below the limit. It seems a little low to me though, I am 230+ lbs and at my weight it seems that just carrying myself around all day would burn more. When I started trying to lose weight I set myself at 1500 a day and was losing then too.

My activity level is "sedentary" and I add in exercise when I take the kids for a walk or work out.

Your estimated BMR is: 1,784 calories/day*

    ^That is what MFP says.

    And bump.

That sounds about right if you set your desired weight loss to 2 lbs per week. You need a deficit of 3500 calories per week.

If you set your activity level to sedentary, then you need to log all activity above that (basically anything you do except be sit or lie down) and eat those extra calories. So, you should be eating more than the 1240 calories unless you are doing nothing but sitting or lying down all day.

If you follow the MFP plan of eating back your activity calories, you will likely be eating a lot more total calories.

This is my favorite site to use for these formulas: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

See what you get with that...
