how to keep suger under control

so i always go over my sugar allowance, how do i control this, No matter what i do i am still in
"red" 40, 50 sometimes even 70 over....it pisses me off , i cant make it not go over..

    I have the same problem, I drink two glasses of milk and bam I am over. Maybe try looking at where your sugar comes from and try and find products that are the same food but have lower sugar, or substitute foods with lower sugar. You can also try sugar substitutes for if you put like sugar in your coffee for example. Personally I try and get my sugar as low as possible but if their over I am not to concerned as I feel the sugar goal is a little unrealistic.

  • Tr Gymnema Sylvestre. It's an herbal supplement, no side-effects and is primarily used for diabetics trying to control insulin/glucose levels. I have a TERRIBLE and I do mean terrible sweet tooth, but since I have been using this supplement (since Saturday), I have found my sugar cravings are becoming less and less. It's cheap, I got it at GNC for $11 with my Gold Card but if you don't have a Gold Card it is still $13 for a big bottle. I am sure other places - maybe even drug stores, Wal-Mart, etc. would carry it too. Good luck!!

    I feel the same way! I don't add sugar to anything, and almost all of my sugar comes from natural sources.

    I took sugar off my nutrient list, and began tracking carbs more.
    I have the same problem, I drink two glasses of milk and bam I am over. You can also try sugar substitutes for if you put like sugar in your coffee for example. Personally I try and get my sugar as low as possible but if their over I am not to concerned as I feel the sugar goal is a little unrealistic.

    oh wow i think i may try this, i have a really terrible sweet tooth, and thats the biggest reason why i'm having trouble losing weight consistently, i think i'll give this a try.

    i dont put sugar in teas, coffee, and even nothing i cook, i dont drink milk (i use almond milk unsweetened) i do eat fruit, and veggies, and if i bake something that really needs sugar i use Turivia or STevie i try to stay away from those too...my protein powder has only 2gs of sugar, and everything i buy i try to look for less sugar, less sodium etc. but i just cant keep that sugar under the goal....i stopped looking at it, but yesterday i wanted to see how i am doing in the sugar department, and every single da i am over!!! its a little disappointing, and worrying me that i am doing something wrong, and the only thing i can do i s cut the furit that i am eating, and i dont want to do that, i want my bananas, and apples :(

    I would like to add that if you are in fact a Diabetic/IR patient or a patient who is currently under the care of a medical physician to please consult with your physician(s) first before taking anything that could be counterproductive...it just makes good sense.
  • Unless you are diabetic or have a family history of the disease, I wouldn't stress over the exact quantity of sugar you are getting each day. Remove it from your tracker.

    Fruits, veggies and even most dairy will have sugar in it, natural sugar. Some of course have EXTRA added sugar, read the labels and watch for it. For example, most of the yogurts with added fruit on the bottom will have more sugar, some is natural, some is extra added. Check the label, if it says 'sugar' then it's been added. Most milk or dairy will be listed as 'lactose' a naturally occurring sugar in milk/dairy.

    *edit, I quit tracking my sugar since a HUGE majority of it came from fruits/veggies. I try to eat minimally processed foods but when I do eat them I try to find the lowest sugar amounts possible.

    Keep in mind that MFP doesnt understand that a banana and 26g of pure sugar are not the same.
    WhenI have my 2 fruit a day, my sugar is over.

    Eliminate most processed carbs and only have 10% of your calories as junk and youll do just fine.

    If most of your sugar comes from fruit than I wouldnt be too concerned. Those are natural sugars, it is the processed sugars that you need to be concerned with. Your body actually needs natural sugar, and natural sugar is much easy to burn as well. I wouldn't stop eating fruit, though my doctor did say some fruits you shouldn't actually eat on a daily basis. But still I believe fruit is fruit and even with the sugar content it is still good for you and better than a chocolate biscuit!

    Yes I have done the same, I look at my carbs, sodium, fat and overall calories. I pay no attention to my sugar and sometimes I even ignore my protein as well. Not sure if that is a good idea or not but I find I go over that almost every day as well. Mostly just from eating a chiken wrap for lunch and having some sort of meat in my meal for dinner.

    I'm with you. The only sugar's I consume are from fruit. Fruit has enough other benefits that I try to over look the "red" sugar #. I just changed my macros to 50% pro 30% carbs 20% fat.. and it's even harder now. I noticed when I started caring, I started cramping b/c I gave up bananas. LOL. Today, I ate a banana :) Ur good... keep doing what ur doing. Looks like ur losing!

    If you can hit your other goals: Calories, Fat, Protein, Carbs, then you can actually achieve/hit your sugar goal. Just workout (extra calories from exercising) on how much you went over your sugar goal. Thankfully sugar is directly proportional to your (calories as well) workout (i.e. if you went over 33% of sugar goal, for example base sugar goal = 30g and you ate a total of 45g sugar, then you would need to workout 33% more, just like your calorie goal).

    I easily go over my sugar goal and so now (most of time) I focus and workout how much I went over my sugars (depends on time or if I go over my calories, I'll concentrate on calories).

    Hope this helps. You get a good workout and you can eat your fruits (:love: , after all fruits/veggies do contain nutrients we all need naturally :flowerforyou: ) & working out is good for the soul. Wished that this method worked well on cookies and candy (too much sodium :frown:.. Wish sodium was slightly proportional as well:brokenheart: , if sodium were I would work out all the time :heart: ) and eat some bonus junk food. lol.

    Unfortunately :grumble: , the others: Potassium, Sodium, Vitamins, Iron, etc. are constant and you don't have any control over that (can't work these out once we goes over :frown: ).

    Most of time I try and cut out the sugar/fruit, but then i'm lacking my nutrients. So I try and workout, it just depends how much I want to look and be healthy.
