Hi, I am new to this site but have been on my journey of weight loss for about 8 weeks now and have lost a total of 18 lbs now but with all the work im doing and eating right I have stopped losing. My whole life has changed, before I drank Mt Dew (loved my dew)everyday, ate candy (love candy), and just straight up over ate but this has all changed now and Im afriad if I dont see some more resuls soon that I will slide back into the i dont care anymore attitude. I am currently 243 and have a recently had ankle and knee surg so I push myself everyday thru pain but I knw its for the good, I eat a 1500 cal diet, walk 3-3.5 miles at 3.5 mph almost everyday and bike on a stationary bike 5 miles a day does anyone have any suggestions for me as to what I could do or why I have just stopped losing? HELP!!

You've made some huge changes in your life! That's great for you. 18 pounds in 8 weeks is an amazing loss! Congrats to you.
We all hit stalling points from time to time, but if you're doing everything right, the weight loss will continue. Take pictures and/or your measurements. It's a times like these that comparing pictures and measurements keep you motivated. I like to say it's a time where my body is redistributing my weight and once it is done with that, I'll start losing again. And it's usually true! I stall a few weeks, then a lose a bunch, then I stall again. The cycle I've learned to live with!
Once the pain from the surgery goes down, or the doctor clears you for exercise, you might want to consider a little weight lifting in your routine too. It will help you keep from losing muscle mass (and subsequent metabolism slowing).
I also think you might be a little low on calories too. You'll probably continue to lose with 1500, but you might do better with some more! Contrary to common sense, eating more generally helps you lose more. But if you're not hungry all the time, stick with what you're doing for now.
Hope something here helps!
Oh, I almost forgot! Drink more water. Work towards drinking 1/2 your weight in ounces of water (120 ounces or so, if I remember correctly!).0 -
sorry to hear you are struggling- lets be friends and encourage each other shall we?
I understand what you are saying "i am watching but not seeing the results" from what i understand, the point we are at now- it dont happen over night, so the change will be the same. Its a change of lifestyle not a "Diet" that myfitnesspal seems to offer. Its an education that helps you choose what will help you be healthier over all. Then the wieght issues follow. Once you figure yourself out, then its easier to have the rest fall into place!
I had lost 10 pds before joining the site, and its been a month and I yo-yo with 6-8 pds lost even on a 1200+ diet. I do have to say the clothes are fitting better and seeing what it could be in 5 weeks is encouraging! Keeps me focused more so than anything else I have tried. It would be nice not to do it alone though. Beth0 -
Thank you Beth, Its nice to knw its not just me. Its so hard to keep going when you dont see the numbers going down when your trying sooo hard, my friends say excerise more, eat less, eat more but I think I am pushing myself pretty hard right now. I had a tear in my knee fixed last April leaving me with pain all the time now so running at 240's lbs is not a wise idea. I knw I can do this I am a very strong person and I need to be healthier and a better influence on my kids. I will keep in touch and I hope your journey doesnt toss you any curve balls like mine has. LOL0

Thank you for the positive pushes I need them right now and I will look into doing some weight lifting too, its something different so it should be fun. And thanks for the water tip too, since I stopped drink my Dew I drink lemon water like its goin out of style mayb not 120 oz but 90 or so, I will try drinking more tho. I think this is awesome that I can talk to others trying to accomplish the same goal. Thanks again!0

Hitting a plateau can be very frustrating. In my case I have given up on more than one occasion which has led to me weighing 276 and now in the middle of spending probably $2000 on the chiropractor to get my back and neck straightened out. I am 4 visits in and I already have an amazing amount of relief. It's just irritating now because I am not allowed to do any heavy exercising until after next week. I am finally feeling better so I guess I should just relax and keep watching what I eat until next week.
I am with the others though. Maybe try upping your calories a little bit, and keep an eye on your carbs. A lot of people seems to have more trouble losing when they eat too many carbs. I am guilty of carb overload myself. I love me some pasta and bread! And take your measurements. You may be losing inches and not realize it. Add me if you like. I am a good cheerleader. Also if you want, read my blog. I am blunt, honest, and opinionated. Some people think that helps. LOL
