My "days off" are just days off from the gym and even then I will do some form of cardio which tends to be 2 brisk walks and a run.

I do cardio on most off days. At least 30 minutes usually 3-4 times per week. I lift heavy weights 3x per week.

I lift 3-4 times a week, do HIIT 1-2x a week and rest 1-2 days.

I get at least one solid rest day a week. Even if I'm doing something active outside with the kids that day, I don't think of it as exercise and don't count it that way. I need a day off to breathe/live/relax without the pressure...and my muscles surely enjoy the time off as well so they can heal.

I am still losing fat til mid May and then switching to a muscle gain phase. Here is my plan, the weights are on days 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6. I plan to do short 1-2 mile warmup runs prior to weights, rest on Day 3 and then a longer 8+ mile run on Day 7.

if you are looking for an "active" rest day, try something like swimming or yoga.

On the program I'm on, I do 20 min cardio on my off days. I'm really not a cardio guy though.

I lift 4 days per week and do cardio 2 days per week (at least).

1 day reserved for total rest (unless I do something random, like hiking or playing a sport, which turns out to be 'exercise').

Noooo. I lift for 30 to 45 min's then do 6 to 10 intervals of HIIT on the Arc trainer (love the arc because I can turn up the crossramp and resistance both as high as they go and that's hard for me...anyway), so that's what... 8 mins to 15 mins of HIIT at a 30/30 or a 30/60, depending on my energy that day. Then I'll do 20 minutes or so of running slowly 6.2 mph or continue on the Arc for 20 mins. Then cool down.

Is that a lot? I didn't think it was????
