Unfortunately it's not always that easy to just put the bottle down and if you go cold turkey right away, you could go into withdrawal. If it's a serious alcohol addiction, then it IS possible to die from the withdrawal.

My advice is to ease yourself out of it slowly. If you're used to having 10 shots per night, why not just do 5-6 shots? Then after a couple weeks, do a bit less until you're drinking maybe once a day, which isn't bad if it's red wine. It helps the heart. Just be careful and I'd suggest talking to your doctor before doing anything.

Depending to what extent you struggle with alcohol, you may need a medically monitored detox and then inpatient therapy. If it is not as serious, then I recommend just trying not to drink and participate in outpatient counseling and get sober support through friends and AA/NA

    Finances is what stopped me.
A buddy of mine in Germany pointed out that I was drinking a LOT.
He told me the next time I go out, take 300 Deutchmarks (around $220.00 american) and, the next day, count how much I had left.
    I had DM 60.00.
    Quit cold turkey after that.
