It can be. It's when your body starts conserving every calorie you give it as fat, and starts eating away at muscles. This happens if you restrict your calories below your BMR for a prolonged period. (Usually 2-3 months, can happen sooner, depending on your deficit.) I like to name it conservation mode, as "starvation" is not really the right word for it.

    I know, right?
  • Starvation mode is actually just a myth. It was first started by the pilgrims when they landed in south africa by plane. They were afraid the egyptians there would not trade the food they had on hand for gold. Pilgrims didnt eat anyways. What did they need food for if they had gold. They told the Eqyptians if they did not take their food and eat it at once then they would go into starvation mode and the gods would become angry. So don't worry about starvation mode. Those d@mn pilgrims.

Starvation mode is when your body believes you're in famine conditiions so it slows down your metabolism to conserve your energy and your fat supplies. you also go into ketosis where proteins are being burned up rather than fat - this can lead to all kinds of physiological problems including hair loss and dental problems. It is also very difficult to re-kickstart your metabolism and if you start eating at all normally after a prolonged period of starvation, you will put up weight very quickly. You should find out your BMR (available on many websites) which is your base calorie need to maintain your body at rest, i.e. if you stayed in bed and did nothing. You should keep your calorie intake a small bit above this. Drink plenty of water and try to use nutritious calories rather than empty ones.

    Hahaha :flowerforyou:
  • If you eat less than 500 calories or not eat at all then you will go into starvation mode. 800 and up will not cause you. The ABC Diet tricks your body into thinking it's not in starvation mode. It's dangerous though.
