Should I continue??

Ok, I go home to Florida two weeks from tomorrow. I have done the south beach diet before and lost about 13 lbs in two weeks. I started south beach again yesterday, in hopes to drop like 5-10 lbs before I go.. My problem is, I LOVE CARBS!!! I am already feeling like cravings are taking over and like I can't do it. Am I wrong to try this "crash diting method"? Should I continue, or should I just go back to my normal diet wth lifting and cardio and pray for the best??

    Why do a diet that's temporary? To just feel good about losing 3lbs-5lbs only to gain it back?

    No need to pray for the best. Use tried and true methods and get tried and true results.

    I did South Beach for awhile and lost about 10-15 pounds. The problem is we live in the real world where go to parties, get invited out to restaurants, have holiday meals, etc. And you got that right about the cravings too! I craved things I don't even normally like, it's just that I COULDN'T have it so I wanted it.

    I have decided that I am done with it. I am just setting myself up for failure in the long run. I am going to increase my protein and fresh veggies but still have my fruit and healthy carbs. Thanks all for that little bit of input I needed to get me in the right direction!

    Yep, avoid things like the south beach diet and just focus on a healthy diet you can sustain for life, which will be so much more rewarding and realistic in the longterm.

    You have to do what is right for you and what you can maintain. Take it from an ex-carbaholic, your tastes do eventually change. I have been on restricted cabs for almost 6 months for medical reasons and I don't crave them anymore. I really do think that I feel as good as I do because I cut them out and only eat carbs from fruits and veggies now. I do have an occasional flatout wrap or something but very rarely because I usually feel crappy afterwards.

    I never thought I could go from a complete pasta/potato addict to not eating either for weeks or months at a time. It can be done and you will get over cravings and learn to eat other things like spaghetti squash instead.

    Crash diets are absolutely terrible. Just count calories, drink plenty of water, eat fruits and veggies, protein, and exercise. That's all you need. Cheat days are allowed, too. I don't know why people just abolish everything form their diet.. that also sets you up for failure.

    Gotta find a way to eat that you can live with over the long term.

    Will the cravings go away? For me, they don't. My blood sugar gets really low on low carb stuff, even south beach where you get some veggie carbs. I can't do it forever. Some people feel they can.

    I'm all for trying something if you want to see if it will work for you... but If I go too crazy, I just end up binging later, so it just does more damage than good for me.

    You need to find something that you can commit to for life.....it is a lifestyle now not a diet. I love carbs too. So I am trying to watch what I eat and what time I eat it. All the best to you and all of your efforts! :drinker:

    If our body didn't need carbs, we wouldn't be able to digest them, right? Choose healthier, slow-digesting carbs and balance them with fruit/veggies, protein and fats. Live to eat, eat to live. :)

    You need the carbs. sorry. Hey if you like chinese food try this.. Get an individual serving of brown rice( they come in a 2 pack, cooks in 1 min) 2 scrambled eggs, and 1 cup of veggies cooked in olive oil spray. splash a tbs of soy sauce. its very filling. Also love sara lee 45 cal whole wheat bread. keep logging in your foods here. good luck.

    exactly what I was thinking. All carbs are not even. Your body needs carbs for energy. I try to make sure to get plenty of protein and try to get the majority of my carbs from fruits and veggies. (Although I did splurge on some pasta today, but needed the calories) Have a good trip.

  • stick to eating healthily and having things in moderation, with your exercise results they are the best and most long lasting results you should have. Diets are temporary

    Up to you to decide how to proceed.

    However, would it not be better to make a life style change to get to where you want/need to be? This would be a safer way to lose weight and the benefits would be life long!
