Unsuccesful at weight loss

Hi all,

I am eating more to weigh less. I am in the group. I have been slowly upping my calories and going from weekend binging, 3000 cal, weekday starving, 1500-1800 cal, to everyday 2300 cal.

Week one I tried 1900 cal. No gain week 2 I tried 2000 cal. gained 1lb. Week 3 tried 2100 gained 1lb. Week 4 trying 2300 which is still 93 cal less than the reccommended for medium activity level.

This is the fat2fit rec for my height and activity level if I want to weigh 165 lb. Now I weigh I85. 2 weeks ago I weighed 183. My waist hasn`t changed but I gained 2cm. in my hips.

I do couch to 10k 3 times a week. Plus am an active teacher and walk everywhere. I always log 10,000 steps a day. I have an omron activity monitor like a fit bit, that puts my TDEE at 3200~2600. The monitor doesn`t know the difference between sitting and standing or hard exercise, it can only count ped steps and so I may be burning more. According to numbers I should be losing weight at these numbers. I should be eating 2300 a day. I see that. But I also don`t see the scale go down at all. This week should be the week right?

I am due to start my period this week, most of you know this means a few extra lbs.

I know the scale will go up. But I am getting sooo discouraged. It is hard not to look at the success stories and imagine I will never be one of them.

I really need some encouragement! Will I ever be posting a success story, or am I destined to be a failure?

(People say I am a drama queen, Why? )

  • well fat2fit is intended to be REALLY SLOW weight loss. You can decrease by 300 to lose weight faster--however I'd maintain your current intake for at least 4 weeks prior to making the calorie reduction.

The fat2fit numbers cause a VERY SLOW weight loss. Depending on how much you need to lose, it could be less than .5 lb per week. There is nothing wrong with that. The only problem is that normal fluctuations in weight cause a melt down if you are not understanding them. The other thing is that with a .5 lb loss per week, there is very little wiggle room for error in calorie calculations. The f2f program does allow for an additional couple hundred per day calorie drop.

I think you are doing fine. Give it a few more weeks. Keep doing what you are doing until after TOM and then reassess. If you are really worried about it, then drop 100 calories per day to 2200.

The goal with fat2fit is to learn to be healthy.

ok, thanks ladies, I`ll try to keep it up. but I don`t see a .5 lb weight loss. I don`t see any weight loss, I see a weight gain. And I am eating under the rec of 2379.

.5 a week would be fabulous.

Cutting cals a lot made me gain about a lb a week because of binging.

Raising cals seems to be making me gain .5 a week.

But no binging and I feel more serene. No bad tempers even at TOM. That`s good. But how do I get this scale moving in the right direction.
You mean I have to wait another month, and probably will see nothing??
Any of you following fat2fit`s number lose consistently?
If you upped your cal`s how long did it take to see results at all. even .5 lbs.....

I saw a friend in the group who saw results the next day! Jealous! Totally!

Those are just normal weight fluctuations. You can gain a couple of pounds from day to day just from normal daily activities. Nobody loses weight consistently week after week after week.

I haven`t lost any weight at all. Before MFP I was dieting for years! All that time dieting and I didn`t lose weight at all!!!

I got fed up and did HCG. I lost 50 lbs in 3 months. Then, I gained 20 lbs in 6 mon. Since then 6 mo. ago, I have tried to maintain, or lose by doing the right thing. I gained 10 lbs in the last 6 mo. I used Lose It app before MFP. and Noom from Android.

I no longer log exercise cal. I just do it and enjoy it, and eat the rec num of cal. I still thought I was eating too little. But will this marathon weight gain ever end?

So almost 2 years ago, lost weight for the first time in my life. Starved myself. Since then one year of colossal weight gain, another of slow and steady.

Am I doomed to reach the same weight I was at my fattest?

I am playing by the numbers but my body is not good at math.

I think you need to give each level more than one week before you change or it will be very difficult to really tell what's working or not working. Try calculating your current TDEE and take 15 - 20% off to get a good calorie goal to try for a few weeks. Even Fat2Fit says you can eat a couple hundred less than the number they give you to speed things up a bit so maybe do that?

I do that and get 2320. I guess fat2fit is pretty accurate. So I`ll stay at 2300 and hope for the best. I guess I should have gone up to that number in the first place.

It is just a bad day for me and I had so much hope that this approach would be different.

Keep running on hope because this approach has worked for so many others on this site.
But I have only hope that it will work for me. Because I have only negative results after one month.

Completely broken about weight loss today.

    But tomorrow is another day.
Maybe tomorrow it will start working for me, huh?

Looking at your ticker it looks like you are at the end of your weight loss quest!
    Welcome to true dieting!
I lose 1% body fat every 3-5 weeks because i'm lean and its hard to lose.

If you choose to go low cal only do it for about a week but to be honest, consistency is key at this point of your journey.

    Also, open that diary.
We should be able to see these things if you want help.

My weight loss goal on MFP is .4 lb per week (I'm very short and don't have much to lose). I often don't lose anything for a few weeks then will suddenly drop a pound. I've actually gained 2 lbs in one week and then lost it back over the next 3 weeks. Sure, i love it when I lose weight but what I look at isn't what I lost this week but the fact that over 3 months I've lost 6 lbs and toned up a lot. It probably too more than a couple weeks for you to get where you're at in weight, it will take more than a couple weeks to get you to where you want to be.

The fact that that you have been kinda yo-yoing with your diet for so long can cause your body a little longer to adjust! Instead of a couple of weeks, it may be a couple of months.

Remember eating too more didn't do anything good for you and eating too little didn't do anything for you either! Let your body get used to getting what it needs for a while and if that doesn't work try a new exercise like strength training. And unless you are eating a surplus of 3500 calories above you tdee, your are not gaining fat.

2-3 lbs is normal fluctuations and the size increase could be do to water retention from TOM! I usually wait a whole week after before I weigh in and measure.
