SO.. upon doing my first calorie count, and work out count.. I noticed for my stationary bike work out it said ( for the drop down ) a general workout on an excersise bike for 35 minutes is over 400 calories burned. But while I was on the bike, it only counted like a couple hundred. How do I know what I am actually burning?!

Your best bet is to invest in a heart rate monitor. My dreadmill under calculates, MFP over calculates, my HRM sits somewhere in the middle.

Is there a way to generally find out how much you burn post work out? I know you still burn afterwards, but no idea how much...or is that also something a heart rate monitor would determine?

for me pulling two kids and a trailer up a hill (literally 99% of the way) for 40 minutes burns me about 350 sometimes up to 400 cals according to my HRM and i am not in shape. so i would personally go for the lesser amount if i were you.

oh im dumb lol i read what you put more than the actual topic question.... i just consider post workout cals as an extra bonus :-) i believe HRMs are only accurate (or most accurate) when doing cardio. someone correct me if im wrong but that is what the seller of my polar told me :-)

I'm in terrible shape. Which is why I am desperate to know.. Looks like I may have to invest in a heart rate monitor.

After my workout my heart rate usually is up or at my ideal burn rate for less than 10 minutes. So I don't count those few calories, it's really not much at least not enough to matter. This is my opinion and certainly may not be fact.
