Greetings
I'm new to the site and this is my last attempt to losing weight the natural way before resorting to bariatric/lap-band surgery. I'm 33 years old, Canadian, married and I'm also an agoraphobic. That means, I rarely go outside.
I have 200lbs to lose and it all seems so daunting. I've been put on diets since I was 9 years old...have tried Weight Watchers numerous times after I turned 18 and recently my doctor has recommended me for weight-loss surgery, but I don't want to go that far as the risks and recovery are so drastic.
I'm looking for friends who have a lot of weight to lose as well and perhaps understand a little about my mental health issues.
My main inspiration for losing weight now: I want to start a family with my husband. So, fingers crossed for now.

You can do it! A day at a time is my motto. As far as your phobia--although outdoors is "good", there are a lot of excercises that can be done 'indoors". Treadmill, aerobics, even walking (i.e. Walk A Way the pounds is a really good "indoor" excercise; it's on video). I too have a lot of weight to lose (more than 100 pounds). Good luck!0

I want to lose 100 pounds. I thought about surgery, but I know now that it is not for me. I have been here before, but stopped coming. Now I am back again, going for it one more time. I can relate to some of your struggle....I would love to be your friend on here and encourage each other. Friend request sent0

Hi I've been MFP for about 6 weeks. I have 175ish lbs to lose myself, and I'd love to add you as a friend! I know having to lose the weight of an entire (medium-sized) person can be daunting, but MFP is a really useful tool, and the people here are supportive.
Oh, and I have to add that there are a lot of GREAT workouts on You.tube. There are a lot of chair workouts (since you said your knees bother you), and great workouts for beginners to do indoors.0 -
Canadian Guy here!
I have a couple of suggestions to start:
Make sure that you find an activity you enjoy for excersize this is for life after all!
Do not drop below your recommended calories to get there faster (again, this is for the long run)
Put the scale away, it misleads us too much. You know when you are eating healthy and moving.
Remember, all sweat is good sweat. If you are sweating dancing to a song you like, then you are doing it!
Don't give up. Don't make it so hard you want to give up. You CAN do this! One step at a time.
Cheers!

There are lots of ways to lose weight indoors get an Xbox 360 with a kinect they are amazing !!! my whole family loves the games they are challenging and useful you can order them online at amazon or gamestop.com Also Jillian Michaels dvd's are very popular and reasonably priced. you can go to any search engine and type ftiness dvd and find lots of things to get you started. I started this journey with 150+ lbs to lose. I am currently down 80 lbs. I have one friend that had bariatric surgery and has gained everything back and another friend that is having a horrible time trying to recover from bariatric surgery and would love to join you on this journey as a part of your atta-girl team. I warn you, I will never encourage you to do the surgery because it can be sooo dangerous and does not always work. :noway:
Friend me if you like. :happy:0 -
Hi Bella,
My ultimate goal is 200 pounds lost. I have lost over 120. I understand all about food issues and being agoraphobic. I spent 4 years locked up in my house not going anywhere except to work. I did have the lap band surgery and for me I had a very quick recovery and very little side effects, so it is definitely a viable option. But certainly needs to be researched thoroughly and it has to be the right decision for you. It is not magic and takes a lot of hard work. I stay at 1200 calories a day or less and try to exercise 3 days a week. I'm not always perfect, but I have been successful. Send me a friend request if you want support.
Take care...Jeannette0 -
