That Awkward Elevator Moment

Maybe I'm just weird but I hate sharing the elevator with someone else when I'm alone! For example, there's this middle-aged guy in my building who works for a different company who gets on my elevator everyday. Maybe it's a coincidence, but his conversation get more and more personal everyday. Being the social butterfly that I am, I have no problem saying "hello" when spoken to. But we've quickly evolved from "Hello" to "What's your name" to "What time are you getting out of work"? I was hoping it wasn't an attempt to flirt with me, so to be on the safe side I made sure he saw my engagement ring....sadly to no avail. We only ride for about 2 to 3 floors at a time but it seems like an eternity. Wonder what will happen tomorrow. Lol! Please share your awkward elevators with me if you have any!!!

I'm not there so can't judge but it sounds like he's just being friendly and everybody wants you. I wouldn't read too much into it. Nothing too personal there.
Anyways I don't really have awkward elevator moments. I say hi to anyone friendly that gets on and have yet to have someone try to take advantage of me.0 -
There is a gay guy that works on the 7th floor where I work and I am pretty sure if he could get away with male rape on me he would. I tend to get the "oh your hair and beard are marvelous, I wish I could have both" I am flattered, but I feel the eyes piercing through my body, or my penis, one of the two.0

just tell him you're not interested.
Guys don't look at rings. Sorry. Too many people just don't care about rings these days unless you say it out loud. I know that's sad, it's a sad world we live in.
I've known guys that wear a ring to get MORE girls because for some strange reason women want a guy that's UNAVAILABLE and he gets hit on more wearing the ring then without it. Or maybe women think he's doing well enough that someone wanted to marry him so that's a good thing? Who knows, point is rings dont mean much anymore to a lot of people.0 -
Wear headphones!!
The elevator got stuck and it was packed full, I am slightly claustrophobic and started having a panic attack telling people to call 911, my breathing got heavy, I sat down on the floor and asked everyone to move away and give me space, pressed the fire button repeatedly. About 2 minutes later (felt more like 20 minutes to me) the elevator started moving again and people were giving me the strangest looks.
I always take the stairs now even if I'm running late.0 -
I was on an elevator with a guy from work who let out a nasty belch and then turn around and farted. Then proceeded to get off the elevator and left me in the stench, meanwhile I had 2 more floors to go and more people got on thinking I had left that stench!! Geezzzzzzz :grumble:0
-
any chance you can miss that elevator? be a few minutes later or earlier just to avoid him?0
-
I'm guessing he didn't see the ring, just the legs.0

I was in an elevator at a care home with 2 female seniors and their walkers and 1 senior gentleman who had just turned 90. He pinched my bottom!! I turned around and looked at him, looked at the ladies, realized he seized the opportunity to grab a young bottom while he could and let it slide. Good for you old man! No harm done. I found it pretty funny.0

Can't believe you're going from "what time do you get off," to feeling like you have to flash your engagement ring. For crying out loud, maybe he just feels even more awkward with the silence than you do with the chit-chat.
You probably better take a self-defense class tonight. This guy is clearly out to get you.0 -
I would also time it differently. Or, I would just be quiet, or answer his awkward questions with equally awkward responses. Like he says "so, what time you getting off of work?" you could respond like "oh, I dunno, I just have to leave early enough for my anger management classes" "I'm not going to work, I've soiled myself" "I'm sorry I didn't hear you, I just threw up in my mouth a little"
something like that.....0 -
Try talking about your girlfriend.
No, that might make it worse.0 -

That is totally foul, but Hilarious!!0 -
Also, if you can start picking your nose in the elevator, I think that would help.0

What about the stairs?0

Then he might give me the shoulder tap! Lol! Hands off buddy!
That's a scary story! I might've reacted the same way.0 -
I would make it a point to take the stairs if I really didn't want to run into him again.
The only awkward moment in an elevator was having to ride down with my ex husband and both our lawyers right after we signed our divorce papers...0 -
I've messed with people on the elevator before, can't lie.
I saw a a speech by Patch Adams in person, where he talked about a huge pair of clown pants he wore in elevators. He would pull them up to various levels, like his waist, chest, chin, and then over his head. I actually bought some old MC hammer pants and wore them in public places, pulling them all the way to my shoulders sometimes, because of that speech. Some people found it amusing, some didnt.
It's an elevator. Relax, and make it fun.0 -
 I love this thread.0

I stood waiting and waiting for an elevator until someone came and asked if I had pushed the button.. Although I was sure that I had, he tried and told me "you need to push it kinda hard"... Elevator came about 5 seconds later.. Lol0

We used to play an elevator game called corners in college. The rules are simple.. Someone will yell corners!!! and you fight to get into a corner spot. Now on the FB team someone yelled that and you had the half the offensive line and some members of the D all slam into the corners. It threw the elevator off track and we had to call security and we all had to wait for them to open the door and get us out.0 -

that was pretty awesome. I ride an elevator with the same bunch of people almost every day, and we definitely get to know each other on those short rides, you see someone every day kind of thing you know. the only time I ever felt awkward in an elevator was when my kid puked in the one at Disneyland. too many churros.0 -
take the stairs, or leave earlier, or later than normal. Take a totally different route if he annoys you that much otherwise. Say hello, goodnight and move on. Don't read into it if he was interested he would have said so.0

I have a terrible fear of elevators. I used to live on the eighth floor of a building and NEVER took the elevator, even carrying groceries! Now I can take them for short rides (have to do it in my school building) but if it's crowded, I still freak out. The worst time was when I was the first one waiting but by the time it showed up, about 15 people were waiting. They all crowded in and motioned me to get in too; there was no way I could pretend I didn't need to use it because I was the first one there! It was the longest five floors of my life! I have since learned to convincingly act like I forgot something and run away.0
