Banks Fruits or Veggies or does it matter?

Hey!
Does it matter if you eat 5 fruits or 5 veggies a day. Fruits are easier to eat on the go-Orange juice, apples, etc but I can't seem to get that many veggies in a day. Any suggestions?

I bought me some veggie juice as a replacement. Not sure if that's ok, but I'm always somewhere and don't have time to steam me veggies.......so I drink a V-8...although that is high in sodium.....0

fruits are naturally higher in sugar than vegetables and they have different vitamins, minerals etc. So I would say that both are ok, you definately don't want to get all your 5 servings from fruits. Maybe 2 from fruit and 3 from vegetables. You can take veggies on the go to. Carrots, snap peas, slices of cucumber, cherry tomotoes....0

lis, they have a low sodium V8 too. It's not quite as tasty but still pretty good. If I'm eating a pre-packaged lunch (like a Healthy choice or something) I try to have the low sodium ones, and regular
if I'm having my wife's chilli or some chicken or something.
Anyway, seb, I guess that all depends on the veggies and fruit. You should probably have a mix as they provide some different stuff. I try to eat a banana and an apple every day as they give lots of fiber and necessary sugar, but I also have a V8, some green veggies and some orange veggies. One thing I stress is, if you want to pick one or the other, try to mix up colors, believe it or not, the color of a veggie denotes the different things it provides for you.
I try, every day, to carry a baggie (12 oz) of either sugar snap peas and mini carrots, or broccoli and mini carrots). Every sunday my wife and I pre-bag about 10 or 12, 12 oz bags full of these so that in the morning my routine is:
grab my main lunch, grab a yogurt, grab a bag of veggies, grab a bag of pre-measured 75% low fat cabot cheddar cheese, grab an apple, grab an oatmeal, grab a V8, grab a pre-measured out 12 oz baggie of almonds and throw it all in a big bag). I eat the banana on the way to work. I get to work and make the oatmeal and have the yogurt, everything else goes in the fridge. It's a pretty good system, it means my food for the day takes about 3 minutes to prepare (plus the hour it takes on sunday to bag everything).
So nobody can complain about not having the time to prepare a good healthy food plan for work, it's not hard, it just takes some time to think about it and set it up.
I know this looks like a lot of food, but it actually only ends up being about 1200 - 1500 calories (which sucks because that means I need to eat a pretty hefty dinner (about 600 calories or so) but I sometimes suppliment my food with some whole wheat pretzels along with my mid morning cheese (notice, not a ton of carbs in my bag there).0 -

I try to have 5 fruits and 6 veggies every day. I admit that I too often fall short of this goal. It is hard, because it can be inconvenient a lot of times but this is my ideal day scenario.
In the morning, I make a smoothie with frozen organic berries, frozen organic peaches, a banana, a little flaxseed oil, an ounce of liquid vitamin, and fill it to the top of the fruit that is in the blender with organic soy milk (usually about a cup or so).
= 3 servings of fruit
For a snacks, I have an apple and then another snack, an orange or whatever fruit there is.
=5 servings of fruit. total
It is best to eat fruit by itself like for breakfast and snacks.
For lunch, I start with a baby spinach salad (with my own raw honey and dijon mustard olive oil and vinegar dressing) two raw veggies (like celery and carrots with hummus as a dip) and whatever else I may eat besides that.
=3 servings of veggies
For dinner I start with another baby spinach salad, two different vegetables (like broccoli and squash or bell pepper) and whatever else I may eat.
=6 servings of veggies total
I try to vary the fruits and veggies as much as possible. There are really endless combinations.0 -
generally the darker the food is, the better it is for you. For example, romaine lettuce is much, much better for you than iceberg lettuce. Spinach is best. Blackberries, blueberries, etc. are all really good and contain a lot of anti-oxidants. It is also important to note that a lot of people are taking multi-vitamins, but unless your doctor told you to, most people wouldn't need them, if they ate a balanced diet. You get all the stuff you need from food, if you just eat smart! Dark leafy veggies are so good for you!!! They are also high in nutrients, but low in calories, which always makes them a smart choice!0

That's a yes, and a yes, and I enjoy them, I love cheese and carrots and peas, I find them very tasty. If you don't, then you need to find other fruits and veggies that you do enjoy, because regardless of how many vitamin suppliments you take, you need everything that they give you.0 -
