correcting posture?

Hi all,

so between having massive boobs plus scoliosis i seem to always naturally slouch over.
i was wondering, does anyone have any tricks to make you help correct your posture?

    Not sure how this will work with your scoliosis, but here's what worked for me. Shoulders over your hips, tummy pulled in. Try to pay attention to your posture and every time you find yourself slouching, consciously correct it. Over time, the better posture becomes a habit.

    I've pretty much got the habit when I stand/walk (it took a while) but I still fight slouching when I sit at my desk.

    I am terrible about it too, must be the boobs. I find when I am sitting at my desk, I scoot as close as pssible to the desk so the chair is actually straightening my back. Otherwise, I just try to remind myself to tighten my abs periodically, stregthen my core and helps posture.

    I don't have an excuse for slouching. I just have always done it. It's not too bad when I'm standing, but I cannot sit straight when I'm at my desk. Well, I can, but I don't. I try to remind myself, but I'm very forgetful.

    Your abdominal muscles are the most important part of good posture. Strengthen them and you will see a difference all by itself!

    The only thing I could think of working on is your core strength; that is really the key to good posture. But you have some other things going on that may hinder your posture, no matter what you do. :(

    People who have bad posture is usually because of awareness. Be more aware that you're posture is bad and straighten up. Every time you sit, stand, turn etc. be aware. Eventually it will become habitual and posture will improve.

    You ate a singer, right? So you know, good posture.
    Head & chin up. Shoulders back. Boobs (& chest) elevated, feet shoulder width apart.
    My biggest thing to remember is to imagine a string tied to the top of your head pulling you upward. It aligns your back so your vertebrae rest in thier natural position, & it makes the girls look good.

    Try to stay aware of how your standing. If you feel yourself starting to slouch, shake it off & straighen up. Lol.

  • a strap perfect bra strap holder will help for sure... it helps pull your shoulders back (I bought some at a local drug store). Also, whenever I sit on my could, i put a pillow behind my lower back... couches are terrible for posture!

    I have yet to try this, but can't help but imagine it might work.

    Take a pair of suspenders or tie short strings from your bra to your underpants, when you slouch, you'll get a wedgie....

    You'll eventualy get tired of pulling it out, right?

    I have the same problem, so I shouldn't joke.

    I wear a back brace (not daily, but a few times a week, depending on pain) for my scoliosis. It has a side effect of training me to sit and stand with great posture.

    This is a weird recommendation but if you're up for it, you will see astonishing results...

    Learn a flow art.

    Juggling, Poi Spinning, Contact Staff, Fire Dancing, Hoop... something like that.

    All of these arts incorporate a very basic kind of dance, and all of them require correct posture to get the tricks right. Juggling for example, automatically straightens you up and elongates the spine because if you're off center you won't be able to catch. Poi Spinning is the most active and will teach you all sorts of wonderful strong postures.

    I honestly think flow arts are better than Yoga for posture training - mostly because Yoga is still seen as an exercise, whereas when you're doing a flow art, you're usually just having fun and you don't realize how long you've been 'working out'.

    Here's one that might help ... Close a door and grab the doorknob behind your back. Gently stretch moving forward. If you loosen your chest muscles it will help to keep your back straight.
