Is it a good idea or a bad idea for myself or my kids. Leaning towards getting the kids the shot and not myself?

Are you sure you will qualify for it? I was under the impression that when it is released, it will be in limited quantities and therefore limited to the sick, elderly, young, or pregnant. I could easily be mistaken. When is it supposed to come out?

I get a flu shot each year and think it has been what saved me for 5 yrs of going into strangers homes!!

I would say talk it over with you Pedo....does it have the same side effects as a regular flu shot?
Is it like past years where they take the top 5 or so viruses and innoculate for them?

Hard to decide........especially when it is your family.

I will email my friend who's girls spent the past 6 wks with the Swine Flu to see if SHE wished she had done it.

    Let you know later.

    Oh BTW....are you new here??00020167.gif

I live in Canada and am going to do it for my family. i know there are lots of conspirators out there that think it's going to do more harm than good...and maybe it will, I dont' know...but healthy young people have died from this...and that scares me...considering I have healthy children in school...

My daughter is at high risk due to asthma and heart defect(nothing serious but puts her in the high risk category) so we all get them....last year they got the flu mist at school...free....otherwise we find a clinic and get them - I figure it can't hurt for her risk and I have so little contact with the outside world my immune system has to be less aware of what's out there - I work from home.

edit - my son got flu mist at school - asthma patients cannot get the mist they have to have the shot.

The H1N1(swine) flu vaccine is going to be available on case by case basis starting in November. The vaccines are regulated by the government. Also, this is a new vaccine and not much testing has been performed. Supposedly there will be more shots available in Janurary. I'm somewhat hesitant on getting the vaccine. The first people to get it will be guinea pigs. Little scary if you ask me. I will wait to see how they do.

You know. Alot of people became very sick(Guillain-Barré Syndrome) with the H5N1(avian) flu vaccine when it was first developed which also had very little testing before they were administered.

Excellent point----my father in law had GBS which ended up contributing to his death in December....I had forgotten about the link there....although his GBS wasn't from flu shot - he never got one.

My husband was in the Army when they started rolling out mandatory Anthrax vaccinations.
Scary stuff, being first to receive a drug (in my opinion). I also try not to buy brand new electronic items though. I wait for 2nd or 3rd generation. I'm pragmatic ( = boring  ).

Yeah, I was in the army and received the first 2 doses of that stupid anthrax shot too. I just hope when I have children they don't come out with an extra thumb.:frown: (birth defects from the anthrax vaccine were reported)
