Are you alone in an office or do you have lots of people around? I stand up and do squats once an hour , no set amount just as many as I can fit in with out anyone catching me or until im gonna fall over. I try and use anything I can, full binders or full folder boxes as weights and do something with them. I know its sooo tricky! With squats you can say you dropped something.. with the binder you can say you were looking for something.. with the folder boxes you can say you were getting one. Good luck!0

I have read that sitting on a stability ball instead of a desk chair helps tremendously. I have yet to try it tho. Just a thought.0

Pushups, Situps, Dips between two desks
Usually you can find somewhere to get your heart rate up for 5 or 10 minutes.
Personally I use most of my lunch break to take a walk.

I could really use some tips too, love the squats idea!0

I just work my legs, by holding them up for as long as possible, which engages your core too. There is not much you can do when there are people around, but at least it's something....0

I sometimes use my 10 minute breaks to walk around the building a couple of times. Nothing that will make me sweat and smelly but better than sitting at my desk.
I also get up every so often and stretch. Everyone here is used to me so they just shake their head and smile.0 -

Hahahaha!! I do this too but I listen to music on my phone with one earbud in. I'm always moving! I'm also a leg "fidgeter"...always bouncing them up and down.0 -
All the things I employ:
~Walk around the floor
~Take the stairs
~Eat at my desk, and then take a walk during my lunch hour
~Stand instead of sitting0 -
I do wall pushups or calf raises while listening to conference calls.0

I sit at a desk all day . . .would love some advice too . . .checking back later!0

I've gained so much of my weight since i started this desk job. I started forcing myself to walk during my 15 min break. Take the stairs to the bathroom (which adds up with my increased water intake).
Make yourself go tell someone something instead of an email (if you can get away with it) do pushup even against a wall.
Hope that helps a bit.0 -
Google "office yoga exercises and stretches". Never avoid an opportunity to walk. If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer monitor, set an online alarm to remind yourself to do a short stretch every 20 minutes or to briefly rest your eyes.0

I do wall sits as long as i dont have a customer. You lean against the wall and "sit" with out a chair and hold for about a minute.0

I am stuck sitting at a desk all day too and have been wondering about things I could do to burn some extra calories. I am only a 6-month temporary co-op student so I'm not comfortable enough to ask to bring in an exercise ball chair but I think that is a great idea/invention. I do get up to stretch here and there but I usually work through lunch so I am not able to go for a walk then. I sit in a cube so there is some privacy but people walking by could easily see me. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated!!!0

all great ideas. Thanks you guys0

A lady in our office sits on an excercise ball instead of using a desk chair. I don't do much as far as working out at work, but I do stretch a couple of times a day.. especially back, neck, and shoulders.0

Exercise before or after work.0

I'm curious about this whole "sitting on a stability ball" thing. I have a ball at home, and I'm tempted to bring it to work and try it, but where I sit everyone walking in and out of the room would see me sitting on a ball! I have no problem telling people I'm doing it for exercise if asked, I'm not embarassed by that, but I would be embarassed if it had absolutely no affect after having explained that to everyone!!0

LOL really? I don't think I am balanced enough for that! Sounds like fun though haha0 -
I have a semi-private office (in a lobby away from all workers)
*walk around *march or run in place
*do inverted pushups *dance around
*squats *knee lifts
*I sometimes take packs of paper (20 pounds) and use them as weights and do some of my strength training excercises0 -
Go to the bathroom and do some squats. Go to the stairwell and run up and down for 2 minutes. Go outside and walk around the block really fast for 3 minutes. People go on cigarette breaks all the time, so take "exercise" breaks instead :-)
I'm sitting most of the day as well, but luckily I work from home, so I just get up and start doing jumping jacks and then sit back down and continue working. lol.0 -
I sit on my butt typing all day. When my workday is over I get in a workout. Then when my guy gets home we hit the gym in the evening. I would love to add a morning workout, but that doesn't currently work with our schedules.0

You know what's great, I installed a free program on my work computer called Big Stretch, you can set it up to give you a popup at timed intervals, just a reminder to get up. It's helped me immensely with neck/back problems, as I sit 8 hrs at work, it just gets the blood flowing. Lots of my coworkers have asked me to install it on their computers too, they love it!
You could use those breaks as a reminder to do the exercises everybody suggests too

Another idea is to do stairs in sets. We work on the fifth floor in our building and there are several folks who actually take the stairs down to the first floor and all the way back up to the fifth floor. That is one set. People have done as many as 10 sets!!!! Ouch! Hope that helps you. If that too much or time is tight, only go down a few flights and back up for a few sets. Works your glutes for sure!:glasses:0

I work in an office in downtown Seattle--and I take a walk every day. Rain or Shine. No matter how busy I am. A coworker and I try and walk as briskly as possible, if we're too busy with meetings, emails or what have you, we walk for 15 minutes. It's nice to walk through the city, except for the occasional pee smell and transient encounter.
By the end of the 2.5 mile walk we are both a little sweaty and have way more energy. I eat a little protein after--almonds or a salad with chicken breast.0
