Setting goals

Just curious, when you set your goal weights, do you do it in small segments or the actual weight you would like to be?

The weight I would like to be, though I use a spreadsheet too and there I target myself to drop each stone. I have 3.5 to lose.0

When I started my weight loss journey I was 254lbs, last year I got down to 194lbs. Now I weigh 210 lbs which is why I joined MFP last week.
Ideally I would like to lose 28lbs by August in time for my summer holiday to Lanzarote (Summer goal weight is 182 lbs). After that my next goal is 168lbs, what I weighed when I was 21 ( I am now a little shy off 38) so to go from 254lbs to 168lbs would be amazing. If/once I get there I will then re-evaluate my goal or see if I am happy there.
At the end of the day its all about size not weight, when I started this journey I was a UK size 22, I am now a size 16 and would like to be a 12/14. I have a large frame so don't think I would look right trying to get any smaller0 -
I do both. I made a nerdy chart on excel and I update it every Friday. It looks something like
date weight +/- goal goal result
then I set small, definately attainable mini goals for myself-usually I set a one week goal, a two week from now goal and a month from now goal.
When I began this journey (Jan 20th) I was 172 lbs (and miserable) and in the obese category for BMI. I know that I can be 135 lbs and be very healthy-I've been there before! Therefore, I set my goal weight at 135 (I'm 5'4"). Perfectly healthy BMI and all that. I've lost 27lbs so far (145 current weight) and some of my smaller goals are to be 140 by May 11th, to complete JM 30DS, and to be able to do 25 pushups without stopping.
I always set weight related goals and fitness related goals. For example, I might run 1 mile as hard as I can and time it and then in 2 weeks see how much faster I can beat it. I have to keep creating small challenges for myself or I get overwhelmed at the enormity of it all. On Jan 20th the thought of needing to lose nearly 40lbs made my head spin....but little by little I am nearly 3/4 of the way there! And after all....it's only (already) been 95 days!0 -
Look at your current weight, lean body mass, and body fat percent. Pick a goal body fat percent and figure out what weight you would need to be to be at that percentage. Then shoot for a reasonable loss like 2-6 lbs per month.

Since I have a lot to lose, I've divided it into 25lb segments. Once I reach 186, I'll re-evaluate how much more I want to lose.
The only number goal I have (as of now) is for my waist to be below 34 inches.0 -
In the past, I have always set weight loss goals by the calendar, and as I've gotten older, I haven't had much success with it. Now I have an end goal, but no weekly/monthly goals to get there. I reward myself every 5 lbs, with little things...my favorite reward is pulling out the bucket of "too small" clothes to find out which ones fit! I also take measurements every 5lbs. I am, however, 1 pound shy of losing 20 pounds in 3 months, and that has been a big motivator over the last week or so.0
