Advice for someone new to lifting?

You guys have me majorly excited to do some lifting and get toned. I don't go the gym, but I work out at home and have a set of weights. Can you give me some advice on where to start? What should I be doing, and how many sets of reps?? Anything I should buy??

3-5 sets
5-8 reps
heavy enough so the last couple of reps are REALLY tough.
Squats
Bench Press
Pull-ups (assisted or negative are a good way to get started)
Deadlifts
