You have a bladder or urinary infection.

Are you taking vitamins?? I notice when I take a daily multi-vitamin my urine has a stronger odor to it.
  • are you losing weight at a fairly steady pace? are you on a more protein / less carb diet? If so this could be a sign of ketosis, a normal healthy reaction. See the Atkins diet. It is well discussed there. if that's the cause, nothing to worry about.

Your pee can react to a variety of things: how much water you're getting, how much you're exercising, what you eat (certain vegetables, legumes, etc), the supplements you take, whether or not you're ingesting carbs... and, yes, bacteria (bladder infection etc).
Do you have any unpleasant symptoms other than smell?

I'd check with your doctor. As some have said, it could be an infection. On the other hand, certain vegetables (asparagus, brussels sprouts to a lesser extent, beets, etc) can have profound effects on urine and any such effects would be completely harmless.

I once went on a "beet binge" from my own garden and had a meal almost entirely of fresh beets. Scared the @!#$# out of me the next morning when I had my first pee. You'd think I slaughtered an elephant and bled it into the toilet. But man was them some fine beets!

If you are lo-cal high-protein, it could be a sign of ketosis, which is a desired state for that type of diet. You'll want to read up on the diet very carefully, though, because you want to manage a high-protein diet carefully. If not done judiciously, ketosis can be hard on the organs, and especially the liver and kidneys. Pick up a book on Atkins or a similar high-protein low-carb diet so you are well-versed on what you are doing.

But if you've been on the diet for a while with no stinkies, and you're suddenly seeing the symptom, something has changed, and it might be something you want looked at pretty quickly. Especially if there's a sudden color change, any discomfort, or any other symptoms.
