MFP calories burned accuracy

I can't afford a hrm at the moment, so now I'm going by mfp. I'm 5'3" and about 150 pounds. I had an hour long kickboxing class tonight. The calories mfp said I burned looked like way too much, so I put in 45 minutes-- it still said I burned over 500 cal.

I can't imagine that I burned that much in an hour let alone 45 minutes. Is there a more accurate assessment, or is mfp actually right?

MFP's not even ballpark for me.

500 for a 60 minute class sounds ballpark, though.
  • For me MFP is under. I have a HR monitor it is usually off by 20-30 calories.

When I do turbo Fire which is a Kick Boxing type workout... I burn over 600 in an hour.

Same here. I recently purchased a hrm and for example with the elliptical for 35 mins on here it would say like 407 whereas my hrm was like 422. not too far off. it isn't TERRIBLY inaccurate but its not accurate lol before I bought my hrm I would only eat like half the calories burned back to make up for inaccuracies. Hope this helps!

MFP more than doubles my calorie burn. I've learned that I burn way less than most people, though.

Using MFP estimates is why I couldn't lose weight for so long. It's when I got a HRM that I finally lost it all. However, that's because I'm different and burn way less. If you are "normal" you may be pretty close. From what I've seen, yours seems about right for most people.
