  • From a quick glance at your profile I can see you're from the UK, so i recommend buying these BBC GoodFood recipe books:

Since starting our diet my girlfriend and I have cooked almost every meal from these books, they're not too expensive and have hundreds of recipes, all calorie, fat, carbs and protein counted. I found the orange one especially tasty. Whenever we do a big food shop we leaf through 1 of the books and plan as many meals as possible, changing books each time to keep dinners varied. The portion size was hard to get used to at first, but I don't mind it now, and she even struggles to eat larger portions (but I'm the one with the real weight problem...). A lot of the meals are in here...search "BBC GoodFood" in the database and you can see some of the things in there, if you want something specific let me know and I'll find it for you!

(also we're students so can't afford expensive food! yet still manage to cook the majority of things in this book, so it's not too expensive to follow these books....man i should work for the BBC advertising team......)

Thanks for the help. I'll look into getting those books. Me and my boyfriend have just bought a house together so we're skint! Glad to know there is still healthy options for less money. It's right annoying how expensive healthy food is and all the unhealthy food is so cheap, it should be the other way around!
  • That's what I thought when I started! "how will we afford all this fresh veg, I can't afford to go to the butchers/fishmongers every other day!" but so far the fresh veg hasn't broken the bank, and you don't need to buy expensive ingredients, and portion control makes everything you buy last longer...good luck with the weight loss and congratulations on the house!

We did our first healthy shop last night, we got plenty of veg and fruit so hopefully it'll last us a while.

Thanks you :) and good luck to both you and your girlfriend on the weight loss.
  • BBC Good Food also has a very good website which has hundreds of fantastic recipes. I use it for almost every meal!
