I'd be interested to hear of any recommendations. I currently take a wellwoman supplement, Tonalin CLA and Vitamin C as everyone around me is ill at the moment.

Oh and do add me as a friend as I'm new to all this MFP stuff - have jumped ship from WW!

Hi. I was prescribed Ferritin by my doctor to help restore my iron level but I too have been wondering whether to take a multivitamin of some type just in case I'm now missing vital vitamins/minerals through restricting my eating, particularly the fat soluble vitamins. Not sure what to go for yet though.

    Anyone else take anything?

At the moment I'm working my way through a large pack of Super One multivit and minerals from Holland and Barrett. they are disgusting, yeasty tasting, and huge so really difficult to swallow and they turn your pee green. Apart from that they're great! I have been a little less anaemic since taking them. To be honest though, when I've finished them (which can't come soon enough) I'm probably going to go for a basic one from Sainsbury's or Boots.

I take Berocca - every single day. I feel really well and have dodged a cold for many years now. That's probably down to quite a good diet also but I think that Berocca 'mops up' anything essential that I might have missed.

I also love, love, love the log-dancing Canadians on the advert...

    Welcome to MFP! :flowerforyou:

I have taken Solgar multi-vitamins and minerals for 13 years. They were recommended by a pharmacist friend and since taking them I have definitely had fewer colds and minor ailments. I wouldn't swear to it being the vitamins but I'm not going to stop taking them to find out. The only downside is that they are not cheap and taking one is rather like swallowing a bullet!!
  • I wanted to start taking B12 because a medication I'm on makes me deficient. But I accidentally bought B6 insted :grumble:
  • I take Quest once a day and i do feel a difference. Better to buy them online as they are much cheaper then high street.

I'm pondering about this. I take Berocca occasionally (it's a great hangover cure by the way) but tend to save it for when I feel run-down.
Logging with MFP has made me horrified how little iron there is in my diet. I don't think I've made myself anaemic, but I am wondering if it might be effecting my energy levels. I either need to get over myself and learn to like nuts (yuck) or get more red meat into my diet, or look into a supplement. I do eat some good sources of iron, but apparently not enough.
Does anyone take an iron supplement? What's a good one? Or should I just suck it up and eat nuts?

Vitamin D - 4000 IU per day. I had a test done and was a bit low, an "insufficiency".

See Dr Briffa web page for info and a UK testing service.

I take a Flintstone's kids vitamin, B12 and an iron supplement for my anemia. I also have a Berocca occasionally! mainly when I'm craving orange juice!
  • I take Seven Seas B vitamin complex.I buy them off Amazon where they're much cheaper.I definitely think they have given me more energy :) and my hair and nails feel much stronger. It has taken about 3 months to take effect though. :)

    I take:
1 x zinc (it's good for especially stress, during more stressful times you can take 2 and helps build immune system)
    1 x Vit C (for immune)
    1 x Vir D3 (the sunshine tablet)
1 x omega 3/6/9 (we have rheumatism in the family, my mum's specialist told her it's good for me to start that now already)
2 x osteocare (for the above reason and add osteoporosis!)

A multivitamin with iron, and an omega-3 capsule daily (for brains, yo). I think there is a danger of overdoing it with supplements - especially as so many of them overlap on either other (and while this obviously isn't going to be harmful in most cases, it's not great if you're loading up on an excess of the fat soluble stuff).

    Hi, welcome to MFP!

Personally, I don't take any supplements. I did start to take the Wellwoman ones a few years back, but kept forgetting to take them and sometimes it would be weeks on end before I realized I had missed a dose or two lol.

Snap! I use Berocca when I feel run down and have also noticed I don't get enough iron (green veg is good for that too, I think) so, when I remember, I take a multivitamin with added iron. Think my current one is from Tesco.

    Hey guys!

I take BioCare SucroGuard (Chromium), Omega fish oils and Flaxseed Oil (liquid) - the first is to help manage my blood sugar level, the other two are to increase my hydration levels, I'm quite dehydrated according to my Nutritionist!

I also take a natural chocolate whey protein shake too to help up my protein intake and help with muscle recovery from work outs.

Those who take multi vitamins and drinks like Berocca, be careful, you could be doubling up on vitamins and minerals - look at your RDA stats on the packaging.

    :)

Seems I take quite a large amount of supplements compared to the folk who have answered here:
Pre & Probiotic With Multivitamins & Minerals,
    Calcium & Vitamin D,
    Cranberry Standardized Extract,
    Glucosamine, Chondroitin & MSM ,
    Menopause Supplements,
    Evening Primrose Oil Capsule 1000mg,
    Omega 3 Fish Oil Capsule,
    Principle Healthcare - Echinacea Tablets
Multivit to cover any inadequacies, Calcium cos I don't have much milk (yuck!), Cranberry as I am predisposed to cystitis and this seems to really help. Glucosamine etc for joints (knees are beginning to complain) Menopause and Evening Primrose - self explanatory, Omega 3 for brains (I think) and Echinacea (not every day) when I am in an environment with lots of different people together (I work with students!) They are pretty much all Asda own-brand except the Echinacea

I take one Cantamega 2000 multi vit a day alone with one Perfectil. And one 'dose' of Maxicol in the morning, keeps me 'regular'.

The Multivit is 'cause I'm Veggie/Vegan & tend to eat rubbish, hence me being on MFP. And the Perfectil is 'cause my fingernails have always been very, very weak, so I'm hoping they help with that. It's only been a month, so I'll not know for quite a while if they are worth it or not.

Perhaps a high strength cod liver oil with vitamin D. Cod liver oil also contains your omega 3's and vitamin A. An awful lot of people are deficient in vitamin D. And you may want to take B vitamins too to help with your ferritin levels, particular B12 and folic acid.

I take Magnesium OK as it contains most of the vitamins and minerals I need, particularly the high levels of B6 and B12. I also take high strength cod liver oil, vitamin D and calcium, 1000mg vitamin C and eat a few brazil nuts a day for the extra selenium. I do eat a healthy diet (most days) but due to long term health conditions I often need to supplement, especially the vitamin D as I react to being in the sun.

    Welcome!

    Yes, I take;

Coral calcium (tip - these come as capsules and are MUCH easier to swallow than the regular great chunky calcium tablets you can buy). There's osteporosis in my family, so I like to keep my levels up to the RDA - lord knows how anyone magages it by eating regular food, unless they chomp on bones!

    D3

    B12

Selenium with zinc and ACE (this is great if you have any thyroid problems)

    Triple omega fish oils.

I'm very aware, since logging everything on here, that I don't get enough iron, calcium and potassium or vitamins from my diet, hence why I'm supplementing, but my question is how could I possibly get all my nutrients and stay within my calorie and macro goals? Unless there's a bunch of superfoods I don't know about it doesn't seem possible. Thoughts anyone?
