alternating maintenance and weight loss eating

Apologies if there a zillion posts about this already that I haven't seen!
And just to be clear, I don't mean intemittent fasting.
But I wondered if anyone has tried eating to lose weight for a given period (say a month or six weeks) followed by a similar period of eating at maintenance, and if what effect has it had? Curious as to whether it might help prevent plateau problems by confusing the metabolism.
I'm thinking this way because (for me, anyway) the first stone goes off easily. I've sort of had this pattern happen to me accidentally as I lost a stone straight away but then have trouble staying motivated so for two months I have just maintained that loss - I'm now back in gear, and wondering what to expect! I shall be able to comment myself from personal experience at the end of May!

My Doctor advised this years ago. He told me to go on a strict diet for 2 weeks and then eat normally for 1 week without gaining any weight back and that really did work and I dropped the weight easily. This was 30 years ago and was working every day 6 days a week and was on my feet all day and had 4 teens and house to look after. Now at 67 and am sedanary so it is harder now. I think if I do hit a stage where I can't lose weight then I will adopt what I did all those years ago. It is a shame thought that we all seem to lose weight and then go back to our old ways and put all the weight back on. Some of us never learn.0
