Road Trip Challenge

My anxiety is building: I am going away for the weekend with a church group. I am trying to plan so that I can stay within limits and get exercise. I figure I can walk when we stop for gas or at the rest stops but I know that the food choices will be mostly fast food with Sunday meal being an all-u-can-eat buffet. I always have my trusty ipad so you will be with me for support. I have a mini cooler to take my greek yogurts and a small salad. Do you have any ideas I haven't thought of?

See if anybody else in the group wants to exercise with you. You'd get a better workout in, you guys would have something else fun to do together and you'd get some quality fellowship out of it.

All you can eat, is not a eat all you can. Keep portion in control, drink water, exercise if you can. And keep things in perspective, it is only 2 days, it will not derail all you positive efforts.

Traveling is a nightmare! All of the rest stops have junk food and the good food is outrageously priced! Some rest stops do have a grab and go section where they carry fruits/veggies and healthy sandwiches. I would carry some healthy snacks or fruit with you just in case. For the buffet: If you have an apple 30 minutes before you will end up feeling fuller and eating less. Good luck!

In addition, it seems like you are in the right mindset for the trip. Don't give up :)

Rice cakes have gotten so much better over the years! I am addicted to the Ranch, Cheddar, and Caramel ones. MMMMM.

When we go on road trips I cut up veggies for my cooler. Carrots, red peppers, celery, cucumbers, etc. I make a dip out of plain greek yogurt and hidden valley ranch dip mix. Almonds, High protein Fiber bars, greek yogurt, etc.

Before you go to the All-You-Can-Eat place.... eat something 30 mins before and drink lots of water so you aren't hungry when you get there. Then make healthy choices. Eat slowly so you have time to get satisfied before you over eat.

Just wanted to stop by and say, thank you. My trip went well, although I am way under calories today. Thank you so much for your encouragement, support and perspective.

    Have a great week.
