I was just at my first softball practice and I've noticed since I lost weight my softball swing is a little bit lacking, although I've gained muscle. Any tips?

Just joined a softball team and held a bat for the first time in my life Tuesday. Thank god I've been working out because the next day I felt muscles that I didn't know I had. Sorry but I have no advice to give as I'm just happy I hit the ball at all.

your timing might be a fraction off. or, now that there is less fat in the way, your muscles are working differently to make the swinging motion. maybe try a lighter bat until you feel a bit more comfortable, then go back to your old bat. i have nothing really to base any of this on, just brainstorming...

I don't know much about the fat loss part related to swinging, but added muscle has made me rip the ball further than I ever have....but my throw has suffered. I can't throw nearly as far. I don't really understand it. So, sorry, I can't really help - I was just excited to see a Softball thread.

If you have more muscle you might wanna try a heavier bat not a lighter one...don't know any specifics but try and see how that works for ya!

Can't claim to be a softball player, persay, but I am learning as I play, and I would recommend trying a new bat- either changing the length or the weight. Loss of weight, increase of muscle, decrease of body size in the upper body, all may effect your swing and bat speed. Vague answer but it's all I've got ;)

Bench press and overhead press seem to have skyrocketed my ability to swing a bat.

Thanks guys! My first game of the season is next Wednesday - I've got time to practice that swing a bit. I'm thinking it's a combo of swinging too early and the wrong size bat now. We shall see! Thanks for the tips!

Haha, I've never seen a softball threat either, but I just had to get some input :drinker:
  • I was going to say try a Heavier back and move back a bit in the box , this should help you adjust to a new swing with more time and a heavier bat . Its always about timing, so more mucsle should help hit it farther just work on timing........worth a try if its just practice :)

Thanks for the tip - that's what everyone else seemed to notice at practice too, that my timing is off now. I did move up to a slightly heavier bat, so I'm giving it a go!
