Knee injury from running. Opinions?

I can't decided what to do.

I fell almost 2 weeks ago and got soft tissue damage to my knees, my left more than my right. However, last sunday I ran my first marathon (I'd trained for 6 months and my knees were ok). Between miles 16 and 17 something went twang in my knee. It's been really bruised and swollen but it feels like there's too much pressure behind my knee cap and as though it needs to pop.

should I get it looked at or just continue with ice?

sounds nasty, id get it checked out asap, and don't run until then.
Ive got runners knee / cartilage damage at the minute and was told by the Dr to totally lay off running / weights /anything high impact until its right.

Speedy recovery! (Twang is never a good sound unless it's coming from a guitar)

glad you got it checked. I tell everyone NEVER mess around with a knee injury. They can stay with you for life. Ask my dad - injured his MCL in high school, now age 73, and it STILL bothers him.

It's good that it's just the MCL. It will take time but it will heal. I've torn my MCL twice now and am 3 weeks post knee arthroscopy for torn miniscus and I have a small grade 1 tear in my ACL. Listen to the doctors, don't push it.

Bum wrap... Sorry it happened. training for and running marathons tends to be very hard on the knees.... I know this might not be a popular idea... but in the future maybe consider doing something shorter like half marathons and replace some of your run training with other types of exercise. I know how hard that is for some people as they love the marathons... but running and training for that distance just tears people's knees apart. You might get a longer running career if you opt for shorter races...

    Thank you all.

I'm really struggling with the rest thing but am trying. Away this week working so won't take my trainers and I have no chance to run. Pain levels are up and down although I'm trying as hard as possible to not take painkillers as they make me really spaced out and odd.

Oh, stink!! Knee injuries are the worst..

Don't play around with it. Get well soon!
  • checked out !

i know far too many people (ok, 2) who have tried to self diagnose a knee or ankle injury and one of them still cant run and its been over 2 years.

better to be safe than sorry!
