Hi there
I am booked in to get sterilised and was just wondering if anyone had any personal experiences of the side affects after surgery? I have read on the internet that some people gained weight, some lost, about exercising after and generally how do you feel etc. but every site has different stories good and bad!! Can anybody share their story with me?
Thanks

I had a hysterectomy with one tube and ovary removed as well.. and since have dropped 50 pounds. Now, those two things aren't directly related, except to say that before the hysterectomy, I was very uncomfortable and felt like I had a bag of potatoes in my pelvis. You can see where that might hinder exercise.. But about 10 months after the surgery, I took up running and lost the 50 pounds. I'm not sure I could have ran so many miles with a sack of potatoes in my pelvis..0

I have had a tubal ligation (5 yrs) ago and a hyst. about 8 mos. ago (Leaving the ovaries) and neither one has affected my weight negatively. In fact I believe that the hyst. has actually helped the process along. I neede to have it due to excessive bleeding that was showing up every two weeks and heavy enough to send me to the ER. The reason I mention this is because my energy and health were so zapped by my cycles that my body was holding on to everything it could for survival and since then I have lost about 15 lbs. (Before that I managed to lose 20 due to discovery of food allergies) I don't know if this is true for everyone or not, just what was/is for me.0

I was sterilized last October and its had no influence on my weight at all. It doesn't effect hormones or anything so why would it effect your weight? Unless you stuff your face with doughnuts while recovering (then blame it on surgery) you will be fine.
Personally I'm so glad I had it done even if it was a bit sore adterwards mainly because my 4yr old was the perfect hight to run up and headbut me in the stomach while hugging me.
I hope it all goes well for you0 -
No effect on weight here. I've not had any side effects that I notice after almost 7 years now.0

Thanks for your replies. Its good to hear that nobody has suffered from weight gain as a result.0
