35 Days!

This is my 35th day on MFP. At first, I started eating very low amount of calories, but after reading the advice in the forums, upped my calories to around 1850/day. Then, when MFP wanted me to reassess my goals, I changed my activity level to lightly active and upped my calories to 1950/day. I have lost 11 pounds--but that seems too fast to me! Do you think this amount of weight loss is normal for someone trying to eat above BMR? Am I miscalculating my BMR? Or is this simply a case of my body reacting to my new food choices? My weight loss has stabilized in the past couple of weeks to about 1-2 pounds/week.

Just trying to do this the healthy way! Thanks!

I decided to come back here and "bump" this, because today, I weighed myself on a whim, and am 2 more pounds down from where I was on Tuesday! My calories are 1980/day, and I am eating over 2000 most days. My BMR is 1880 something I think. Should I up my calories more? Ugh, sorry to be annoying. Haha.

after a while your body will get used to your new life style and slow down with weight loss
i would just enjoy the big losses your having cos it will soon slow down to about a lb a week :noway:

Sounds ok to me. You always loose more at the beginning and then it will level out.

I also lost very quickly in the first few weeks, even the first 2 months. It has slowed. Don't worry about it. I've continued to lose but at a much slower pace. I'm now at 1 pound per week, instead of 2 or 3. I'm down 23 pounds in about 12 weeks.

I agree that it is normal at first and then your body will slow down. I lost fast at first and now I am down to losing about 1lb a week.

Well I'm going to assume that you are working out also so that factors in. But depending on what your start weight is that seems like you are doing the right thing. As you lose more weight things will change and you can play around with the calories

When I first started I lost about 12 lbs in the first month... before the loss slowed down some... and then i plateaued because of eating to little calories and the minute I up'd i went down.

I just reevaluated what and how much i should be eating with my trainer and eating above the BMR is necessary because even when you aren't working out you are burning just from your daily activities so adding on those workouts you are keeping your body fueled while still maintaining a proper deficit for weight loss....

ALL IN ALL GREAT JOB AND KEEP IT UP!

11 lbs in 35 days is 3 lbs per week. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week.

You are right in your assumption: if you are losing faster than you have expected, then your goal would be too low.

Yet a lot of people seem to drop a few lbs early on (like in the first few days), so if you "lost" 4 or something of those pounds in the first week, I would disregard that loss. Like you said it stabilized after the last couple weeks to 1-2 lbs per week. This means you are doing it perfectly!

So leave your goal alone!! And keep up the good work!! :drinker:
