Does anyone know the cal burn when shaking your booty like Shakira?

I've been practicing this as a surprise for my husband (lol, lucky him). I practice it for about 15 minutes at a time but I don't wear my hrm because I do it in my "spare" time. I just can't see "gearing up" for that.

ok...I'm not that great at it, either....but I'm working on it :) (I should watch some youtube videos lol) Is there anyone else doing something like this?

look at belly dancing... that is what she does
  • lol i think i loose my balance to easy to do it.. altho i would love to be able to!
  • I believe you mean shimmy the belly dancing move? Doing shimmy by itself shouldn't burn very many calories I'm afraid, since a proper shimmy is really more about moving your skeleton (it's basically a very fast slight knee movement that causes the resulting booty shake, but you're not supposed to literally shake your booty) than working your muscles. And it's supposed to be very natural and not forceful. I know I'm probably explaining this weird, but that's how my belly dancing teacher explained it to us.
  • I thought shimmy was your upper body. I'll check out belly dancing...thanks for the info!!

Either way, it's a lot of fun  and when I'm done, hubby will like it too

I've been bellydancing for almost 4 years - it's a great way to lose weight and feel good about yourself. There's two shimmies, one for hips and one for shoulders. Neither by itself will burn many calories, but if you do a full workout (DVD, class, etc.) it can be a moderate-level sort of workout. I find I probably burn more calories dancing around like crazy at home. ;-) But it's definitely tons of fun!!! :-D
