What difference does 20mins a day of jogging do?

Would I lose more weight If I jogged 20mins a day?....What difference would it make if I jogged 20mins a day...curious.

    You'd have better cardiovascular fitness, you'd tone your legs, and you'd burn roughly 200 calories.

    I think you would lose some weight, probably more with a calorie controlled diet added in,too. also, the other very obvious benefit is that of your cardio vascular fitness would greatly improve. weight loss is just a fringe benefit. i am running to improve both my fitness and as part of my weight loss regime.

    It would be a shame if you were to start a running program where your end goal is just to lose weight, though...just saying.

    Well it's extra exercise so it'll definitely increase your activity level which is a positive thing.

    I do 20 minutes (2miles) a day too. It's about 150 - 170 kcals. It's a chocolate bar!

    Well.... yes? Of course you would lose more weight, provided that activity increases your net caloric deficit per day.

    Any increase of calories burned vs. calories eaten will result in a net weight loss, all things being equal. This equation is certainly affected by many other factors, which is why folks run into weight loss plateaus or end up with body types that they don't want.

    But more important than general weight loss is aerobic conditioning and body recomposition. Running with at least 60% max HR for 20 minutes per day will result in a definite improvement in overall fitness and will likely contribute to a reduction in overall body fat.

    So, yes, running will make a difference. The abundance of threads about running in this forum will also help with details. The Search link at the top is your friend.

    You'd develop a love for jogging, find yourself searching for races in your area (5Ks and such) and then, before you know it, you'll realize you have just signed up for your first race!

    This will lead you jogging/running even longer than 20mins/day...more races...and eventually you'll notice people with stickers on their cars that say "26.2" and you'll think to yourself....."Hmm, I think I want to start training for a marathon one day!"

    good to know, thanks! I want to lose weight but I have a hard time wanting to work out out...very lazy, no energy person. I want to lose 70lbs but its hard to get the energy to become active so wondering if 20mins a day would make a difference....start small... lol

    losing 70lbs is a more than doable goal. the fight to beat laziness is a lot tougher. running is very psychological. ask yourself how bad you want that 70 lb loss and what you are prepared to sacrifice to get it.

    For me 20 mins is the magic number - its short enough not to put me off but long enough to amke a difference. Running for 20 is v convenient too. Up and out - your done before you know it - just need to stretch properly after still.

    You will start wanting to do more and get faster. Best of all you will get fitter and your metabolic rate will get faster.

    Your cardiovascular healthy would improve.
    Regarding weight loss and fat loss, that depends more on your diet and whether you do strength training as well.

    If you do some sort of cardiovascular exercise consistently, like jogging 20 minutes a day, you will lose weight in the long run, but it will be a slower process. What this type of exercise does is helps build your lungs up and tones some muscles, but like I said, it is a slower process. If you are looking to lose weight a little sooner (like within a month), I would suggest high intensity interval training (HIIT). This sounds intimidating, but it's totally worth it. If you want to get involved in this type of workout, I suggest you do some research first and decide if it's the right kind of workout for you because it really is INTENSE.

    I started off by running DAILY, every morning for about 20 minutes just around the block. I noticed some weight loss, but I was also not eating as much as I should. I started doing research and my friend told me about HIIT. I started eating right and doing HIIT, and I feel amazing and the most toned I have ever felt in my life.

    My routine for HIIT is usually a five minute warm-up, then 6-8 reps of 15 seconds on a high intensity activity and 30 second long intervals. I recently started trying 30 second to 1 minute intervals. This is where the research part comes in for you to decide on your own what intervals would be best for you to start at. You can apply HIIT to virtually any cardiovascular activity. I either do it on the bike at the gym or running/bleachers at the track, and I try to do this at least twice a week.
