Painful Gas After Eating

It is really getting on my nerves after years of it.
I used to abuse laxatives for years when I was about 19-22, up to 70 a day, and suffered anorexia, so I am guessing that has something to do with it. Also hypothyroid.
It does not seem to matter what I eat really, I fill up so badly sometimes it hurts.
Tonight I had about 300g of mixed vegetables and tuna/sardines with vegetarian chili and soup mixed in and it is absolutely awful. I did have rice cakes earlier mind you.

Anyone else have really bad issues with gas build up ?

Or any suggestions as to what might ease this ?

This is why I can't eat broccoli or grapes, despite how healthy they may be. I get trapped gas pains that make me curl up in fetal position, almost in tears. I've tried gas-x and beano (which you take right before you eat) and they both help. I think I have IBS to some degree (no health insurance so I don't know for sure) so I think that's where my issues come into play. Chili and vegetables both sound like gas causing culprits to me. Maybe ease up on the raw or super fibrous veggies, spicy food, beans, whatever causes the bad gas pains.

You should get your gall bladder checked! I used to have the exact same problem but mine was after eating naughty foods like mcdonalds or treats.
I ended up never ever having an attack & then had bad gas pains that just got worse & worse & ended up going to the hospital & was admitted.
Apparently filling up with gas like that after eating is a sign... :( Never knew.
    Doesn't hurt to check right?

I agree about the gall bladder possibility. That is exactly what happened to a friend of mine.

Ditto to the above ... my co-worker just recently had her gall bladder removed, after similar complaints.

How fast are you eating? Do you chew with your mouth closed? If you're eating really fast with your mouth open, you might be taking in too much air. My husband almost always gets hiccups and burps when he eats because he eats fast with his mouth open.

Have you tried gas pills? Beano, etc?

Raw vegetables, or lots of veggies in general, tend to make me gassy. Eating slower is also a good idea.

I eat fairly slowly and with my mouth closed always. I do not eat fast food at all, never have really, other than the occasional pizza out.
It is annoying as the cause could be so many things, from intolerances, to celiac to gallbladder. My mother has gallbladder issues, incidentally. But it is never pain, as in real agonising pain, just pain from the sheer quantity of gas I fill up with.

I do have to avoid oats and wheat as they seem to make things noticeably worse, but vegetables as well which is annoying as I don't eat meat. I have tried to just ignore it and accept it as normal for me, and have not had any tests done as I wouldnt know where to start. I simply blamed it on my ED history.

    was the chilli spicy??

again the speed and way you were eating could affect this as mentioned before?

fizzy water or drinks? salt gives me indigestion!
(mainly on salted crisps or if i do use extra but sometimes high sodium foods do it)

if its really bad maybe you could see a doctor? maybe your stomach is sensitive because of your history or maybe you have IBS? or again the gall bladder thing.

other than that try eliminating things you think it could be, one at a time and see if that makes a difference?

gas is a very general thing it can be due to so many things or can just be our body digesting...again i suppose it depends on hoe bad it is for you!!

    feel better x

I've experienced similar issues from refeeding after trying to recover from my ED. Hot coffee and tea helps, it also helps with the 'stuffed' feeling after eating. I've tried sooooo many things, enzymes, probiotics, etc, but they haven't helped much. Not even beano which is meant for gas lol.

Here are some other things I do often:
    - don't eat too much, mass-wise, at each meal, as it can make you gassier
    - watch food combinations, some can be worse than others
    - drink kombucha (fermented tea), it helps the bacteria in your intestines, which can help for less gas from digestion
    - have 2 T raw apple cider vinegar each day
    - reduce artificial sweeteners and processed food
    - soy products are a little known cause for gas

Hope it helps. I'm still figuring out more things as I go on.

Yes. Digestive Enzymes. Garden of Life has the best I have ever come across. You can get them at whole foods or online at iHer.com

I get the really expensive ones but my best friend just get the regular ones for women. Made a HUGE difference for both of us.

BTW, I have had my gall bladder out and one of the reasons the gall bladder struggles is because the liver is being overloaded. So detoxing every 4-6 months isn't a bad idea out. If I knew what I know now then, I may have been able to avoid having mine out.

Try digestive enzymes and probiotics. I've had the most success with Nature's Plus Ultra-Zyme and Nature's Plus Ultra Probiotics. Take them regularly, give it some time, and you'll be amazed at the difference. For liver support, try Hawthorn Extract (it's something my doctor actually recommended to help with my fibromyalgia).

I used to work in a gastroenterology office & SUGAR is the biggest culprit in causing gas....best natural way to help gas is to add MORE FIBER to your diet...LOTS of fiber!!! With your history, you should get a good GI doctor....your diagnosis could be a number of things....GET CHECKED BY A DOCTOR!!!

Haven't read all the posts in here but have you seen doctor about it? Is it an allergy to gluten in wheat? Also gallstones can be the cause of abdominal pain. I had my gallbladder removed because of it. It could be a number of things. You gotta see doc and soon!
