First Half marathon!

I completed my first half marathon today!! While my goal was just to finish I clocked in right on target with just over a 12 min/mile pace and I felt pretty great doing it.

The best part though was the $550 I raised for St. Jude's running as a Hero in memory of my cousin Maggie. If you need extra motivation to train for a big race I highly recommend doing it for a cause that's close to your heart. Knowing I was doing this not just for myself but for a bigger cause got me to the gym and on to the road more times than I could count.

If I can do it, any one can!

As a seasoned half marathoner (25+) and 'philantrolete' - I congratulate you on your success on both completing the HM and the fundraising to one outstanding organization. Calling them 'outstanding' might even be an understatement.

You are so right - running for a charity (or with a purpose) gives motivation in so many ways and really drives you towards the finish line.

I would say just get on a training plan and try to stick with it. I added about a mile a week and did two other 30 minute runs/elliptical sessions per week. Start raising money for a cause if you need extra motivation or get a friend to do it with you, my sister and I did it together and having a buddy definitely helped. You can totally do this though, good luck!
