Ok, so, my lungs are AWFUL. We're talking really, really bad. The old "use your inhaler ten minutes before you work out!" sort of tip is a joke. I'm under treatment by a whole team of docs, including a pulmonologist, yadda yadda. I'm looking for the best ways you've found to SLOWLY increase cardio stamina. What advice have any of you got for this wheezy woman?

Oh boy do I know what that is like. I too have severe asthma...started these crazy Xolair shots a few months ago; still waiting to see if they make any difference. Using my inhaler a few minutes prior never helped me much either.
My doc had me start walking, just walking, on my treadmill, slighly increasing the time every few days. Then if I didn't collapse in need of my nebulizer, I could increase the speed slightly so on and so on until I built up a little stamina. I have also found that Yoga and the controlled breathing that goes along with it has helped.
It has basically been a slow and steady increase over time to see what my lungs can handle. I still can't run or jog...but I am able to do a brisk walk for a mile a two and when I do interval workouts my lungs seem to be able to handle the short bursts of cardio.0
