High-Cal Day every 2-3 weeks?? Does this help or hurt??

I sure hope my trainer friend is right about this "high calorie day" helping to kick my metabolism into gear. She said I was gaining at first because I was eating way below my BMR and to help keep the weight coming off, I needed to have a good surplus of calories one day every 2-3 weeks, so that my body never "adjusts" to my deficit eating. Has anyone else done this before?? Just hoping I don't gain back the 2lbs I just lost.

Back when I was doing Weight Watchers there was a side program people were doing called The Wendie Plan. It was created by a woman named Wendie that was doing everything right, food, exercise but whose weight loss was stuck for months. She created a plan where she would have a low point day, then a high point day, etc... and a Super High Day where she was well over her points. What she found is that she started losing a lot of weight.
The thought was that she would get her metabolism turned up and then have a low day, before her metabolism could come back down from the low day she was having another high day. Her metabolism was constantly surprised and trying to catch up. She told lots of friends about it and the information made its way to the WW Community Boards. I know I lost a lot of weight doing it, as did other members.
So, from my experience your trainer is right on. Give it a try for a couple of weeks and see if you don't have the same kind of results. You should give it at least two weeks, though, because it may take time for your body to adjust to the new way of eating.

Thanks so much for the reply. It really has been bothering me not being below my calorie goal today. The odd thing is I'm more hungry today with eating more than I am when I eat less. I will try it for 2 or 3 weeks and see how it goes. Thanks again! :happy:0 -
Absolutely - definitely allow yourself a day once in awhile to eat some of your favorite foods and junk. I definitely think it spurs weight loss, it keeps you from feeling deprived, and you get to enjoy some of your favorite foods. I used to try what I now call "total deprivation and fun-sucker" diet, but found that with moderation and portion control with a focus on healthier foods, I can eat almost whatever I want as long as I engage in regular cardio, strength training, and portion control the junk.0

i always do this, i have a 'spike' day every week where i eat well over my calorie goal but its never stopped me losing weight, ive gone from 282 down to 166, good luck x x0
