Last weigh in 177 this morning 183? What happened?

Okay so last Wednesday I weighed myself and I weighed 177lbs. Since then I have had 3 full workouts and went out dancing. I however did go over my calorie goal by a lot once this week and then some of my other goals I went over as well, but it was not by a lot. I definitely burned more calories than I ate this week but I gained back most of the weight I've lost! So after talking to some friends I kind of figured I gained muscle rather burning fat, which we all know weighs more. Is it right to assume this?
Also I definitely think I burned even more because I wear a waist trimmer belt every time I work out

No, this is not true.
Most likely causes: water retention, high sodium intake, your period is around the corner or already here, and/or you have a huge crap you need to take.
But also looking at your diary, for advice in the long-term, I would increase your net calorie goal if you are accurately tracking your food intake and exercise burns.

Waist trimmer belts don't make you lose weight, they just make you sweat more so you just lose water. It'll come back on the moment you take a drink.
So, if you weighed 177 after working out with the belt, then went out and drank some liquid and put that back on and ate more- probably eating salty food which creates water weight- then you effectively have put on 6lbs of water.0 -
I dont think all of it is muscle to be honest muscle doesnt grow that much that fast. I think its water retention!0

You should add sodium to your goals to track. I bet over the weekend your sodium was sky high. Drink lots of water!0

You aren't going to gain 6 pounds of muscle in three workouts.
Are you weighing yourself at the same time every day, and preferably first thing in the morning before you've had anything to eat or drink?
Did your diet in the last couple of days include something really high in sodium? I love me some chips and salsa or Americanized Chinese food, but the sodium will often put pounds on for a few days.
Have you been drinking lots of water during that week?
Any other changes in lifestyle, clothing, etc that might explain the gain?
PS: I've never heard of a "waist trimmer belt", but unless it adds resistance to the specific muscles you are exercising, adds weight that you have to cart around, or is made of magical unicorn poo, there ain't no article of clothing that's gonna add calories to your workout burn.0 -
I definitely think it's water retention. You just weighed yourself last wednesday. Why are you getting on the scale again today. Why don't you try weighing yourself once every two weeks. When people see the scale fluctuating like this it usually freaks them out. Take a break from the scale.0

I was required to do a liquid diet for some medical testing. For 24 hours all I consumed was gatorade and some chicken broth. Result - gained 6 pounds, overnight! That was Friday an I am back down to normal starting weight now. You may want to watch your sodium intake as others have suggested. Good Luck!0

Honestly, it is kind of ridiculous to think you gained 6 pounds of muscle in three workouts. However, it is very easy to gain six pounds of water weight/bloat with a few high sodium days. TOM always puts a good 3-5 pounds on me when, but that is gone within a week plus what I should have lost.0

You typically don't gain 6 pounds of muscle or lose 6 pounds of fat in a week. Its most likely water weight. Are you drinking enough water to stay hydrated?0

The same thing happened to me. It hounded me for about 2 weeks, up and down, then one day it was all gone, then some. Chalk it up to too much sodium. Unless you completely binge eat for days, you won't gain that much weight back. Hang in there!!!0

could be due to numerous factors.....water retention, that time of the month, like others have mentioned. weight fluctuates daily so if you just weighed yourself on wednesday, wait at least a week before stepping on the scale again.
or maybe your scale is broken.
and i never understood why people say a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat. a pound is a pound is a pound is a pound............0 -
true, sodium can have this effect, but so can sugar. Your body could have stored water due to carbohydrate reload. if you had low levels of carbs (due to your dieting) you may have retained water when you upped your carb level.0

Haha okay I think you guys are right. I probably just ate way to much salt in the last couple of days and all that I have gained is water weight. I have not been drinking as much water as I should be everyday either, but I am drinking tons today! I think in a few days I will lose the weight and possibly more. I just won't win the biggest loser challenge at my job this month oh well I will do better next month0

You dont gain 6 lbs of muscle in a few days. This takes a LONG time. Plus a lb of muscle weighs the same as a lb of fat. Are you getting close to that time of the month? Did you eat alot of salty foods? Did you cheat a little? It cant be 6 lbs of fat either unless you ate ALOT. The scale sucks sometimes. Just keep at it.0

you shouldn't think of weight loss as a race. you didn't pack on the pounds overnight, so it's not going to come off overnight. slow and steady! also, i don't know if losing weight just for the challenge at your work is a good idea. i mean, don't get me wrong - it's a great motivator, but what if you do win next month? then what? will you continue losing weight for yourself?0 -

I had a similar issue, ate too much Chinese food Sunday and was nearly 4 pounds up on Monday just from water retention. Gone already, though, I was a good girl yesterday!0
