Hiya

Wonder If someone can give me some advice please? I'm new to this site! My daily goal is 1350 a day, I tend to do 1000+ (I eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack twice a day, have cut out all sweets, choc and don't snack after 8pm as all that was my downfall)

I now excersize daily and burn 400-800 cal and currently haven't ben eating these calories but am wondering if I should? When I close my diary at end of day it has came up a few times im not eating enough calories.....I am not starving myself, I eat til I'm full and when I'm hungry I snack on healthy foods! My first week I lost 4lb and my next weigh in is tomorrow but don't want to slow down my weightloss because of this!

I appreciate your help :)

  • yes. you should eat them. you should also NOT be getting less than the 1350 minimum that is set for you. the deficit is already taken into account when you set your goals so eat the exercise calories.

I dont eat the calories I burn, however, I do allow myself one cheat meal a week and I try and exercise that day for sure. I usually go way over my calorie goal for that particular day, but it keeps me from going insane wanting a cheeseburger all the time. Lol.. I started at 1700 calories/day and recently dropped it to 1500 after losing 20 lbs. 1350 seems like its not enough unless you are already pretty small. I am not going to go below 1500. My goal is 150lbs.

I agree and disagree with this...I manually set my calorie intake to 3000 cals with in mind the calories I plan on burning for my workouts....So I personally do not eat my calories back ...UNLESS I feel tired and/or lethargic

I don't eat back my exercise calories. I eat MFP's calorie recommendation and exercise 500-600 calories worth a day. This normally puts me around 1000-1200 calories a day net, sometimes more, sometimes a lot less if I felt like doing some extra exercise or mowed the lawn that day. This seems to work okay for me.

i don't see where the disagreement lies. You set your intake with your burn in mind. it's essentially the same thing.

You need to eat them. MFP does not factor exercise into their calculations. You should also NOT eat less than your BMR.

MFP is designed with a built in deficit. If you don't est your exercise calories you're running a double deficit and probably not consuming enough fuel to br healthy and successfully lose weight. Read the FAQs about this, it does make perfect sense when you understand how the program is set up.

Yes, I recommend you eat them back. If you don't eat them back and you've burned quite a few calories then this further increases your deficit. You should maintain a consistent(ish) and reasonable deficit in order to increase your odds of success.

yea...maybe my newbieness doesn't know how to turn the deficit off then...because it's now showing I can have nearly 4000 calories today...I am not about to attempt to eat 1500 cals between know and bedtime!

I normally do not but I set my own calories and ratios. Now if I have a big run and burn a ton then I don't sweat it if I go over on calories (over my 1,800) :)

    Hiya

Thank you for all the replies! Really appreciate it! Everyone has mixed feelings but think I prop should be eating slightly more, at least my 1350 which MFP worked out for me! I do have a cheat day once a week where i do go way over but as ive burned calories that day It still keeps me in line!

Still getting used to this...although had my second weigh in today and another 3lb off!!!

    Thanks again all :)
