I am 5,5 230 and wanting to lose 2lbs a week, on my fitness pal the calorie allotment they give me is 1270 a day, just last week at the same weight goals it was 1460. Im feeling like I should be eating more then 1270 a day based on my bmr being 2210.... I don't know i just haven't been seeing much changes and I lost one pound but i only weight myself once a month so idk if this 1270 or the 1460 calorie was the plan that helped me lose....

    Hellooooo!!

I plugged your numbers into the Fat2FitRadio.com BMR calculator (that's the one i prefer to use, personally). I didn't know what your goal weight is so I just put 170lb in for now. It calculates your BMR as being around 1867 calories. Your sendetary calculation is 1927, so if you ate that amount daily, without exercise then you'd eventually weigh 170 pounds.

I don't know what the time range is for this. It might not be the 2lbs a week you want, but it would definitely get you to lose weight in a sensible way.

My suggestion is that you don't eat below your BMR. Maybe you should aim to get down to a certain weight and then recalculate your BMR and daily calorie needs when you reach it.

    Hope that helps :/
  • Thanks ill check it out my goal is 140 so you weren't far off.. and yes ill try that because the 1270 just didnt sound natural, and i was also told you plateau if your not eating enough so thanks for helping me clarify some things.

1lbs of fat is 3500 calories.

You are targetting 2lbs a week, so that's 7000 calories more you need to burn than you ingest.

    7000 calories / 7 days equals a 1000 Calorie defecit each day.

You say you BMR is 2270 but I assume you actually mean TDEE.

A TDEE of 2270-1000 = 1270 Caloric intake each day.

If you actually do mean Basal Metabolic Rate then you need to increase your intake to take into account your normal energy expenditure each day.

So the sums the tool has given you are correct. However I think 2lbs may be an excessive and unrealistic goal.
  • Yeah I brought my goal down to 1-1.5lbs a week in hopes that with great lifestyle changes and exercises will let me drop the weight at a good sensible rate..
